IGN - 4 Reasons I'm Worried About Dark Souls 2

"When I woke up on Saturday morning to the news that Dark Souls 2 was on the way I literally leaped out of bed with joy, but ever since I actually watched the trailer and read Edge magazine's teaser for their forthcoming Dark Souls 2 issue, there has been a fine mist of unease settling in my brain. Of course it's ridiculously early to be passing judgement on the game - I've not seen it, obviously, and it's faintly ridiculous to be worrying already. But I can't help it. I care too much." (Dark Souls 2, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Yeah, that CGI trailer was so worrisome.

And FROM has such a long history of radically changing core elements of their games.

Oh, wait: that's all ****ing wrong.
dedicatedtogamers  +   1079d ago
People need to chill out. The game series hasn't sold very much, and obviously FROM would like to continue the franchise (otherwise they wouldn't be making a sequel).

Why is accessibility bad? For all we know, that could mean a more refined combat system, a more refined online system, and a more refined game world.

Why is "it's like Skyrim" bad? Isn't Skyrim one of the most-loved games of the past few years? Combine the challenge, depth, enemy design, and combat of Dark Souls with the expansive world of Skyrim and I think you'd have a winner.

No to everything you stand for.

"Why is accessibility bad?"

Your joking right...

FF13, RE5, RE6, Dead Space 3, DmC...hell even Skyrim was accessible and it wasn't as good as Oblivion when it came to a challnege, instead of expanding on things they took them out.

Come on man...accessibility is bad and despite them doing this to this franchise to "save" it, there going to be the ones to kill it.
Louis_Guzman  +   1079d ago
Just don't add the glitches and crashes of Skyrim.
dedicatedtogamers  +   1079d ago
Dark Souls was more accessible than Demon's Souls...and it ended up being a better game. Sorry, but if FROM Software can make this Dark Souls sequel better by making it more accessible, they should go for it.

What, are people honestly asking for WORSE controls, GLITCHIER enemies, LAGGIER online, and CHEAPER online combat? Because those are the main issues that plagued Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, and that is what "less accessible" would look like.

"Combine the challenge, depth, enemy design, and combat of Dark Souls with the expansive world of Skyrim"

I'd certainly buy that game. Skyrim's combat sucked big time, and so do scaling enemies.

People seem to think "accessible" means "easy" or "watered down", which it doesn't.

Who said you can't have a hard game that is accessible? Souls fans are so snobbish.
Dread  +   1079d ago

you did not read the article did you?
Veneno  +   1079d ago
Well, it didn't help that Shibuya said DS2 would be more accessible without explaining why the established fans shouldn't be worried. I know they can't reveal everything right now, but for christ's sake, give us something.
josephayal  +   1079d ago
I hope Dark Souls 2 isn't too much different in terms of difficulty
sway_z  +   1079d ago
Don't worry about Dark Souls sequel.....

Worry about your Kids/Wife/Husband/Family/Frien ds/Partner.... so much more important...no?

ROFL ...That's why I'd hate to be stuck (Desert Island) somewhere with an obsessive gamer...quite possibly the most self serving, selfish people to walk Gods Green Earth!

Them and Iphone zealots lulz ;)

stop worrying, IGN.
Did you worry Dark Souls didnt have the Demons Souls name?
So long as they dont break the mechanics for the casual crowd, no worries.
Locksus  +   1079d ago
Considering that the Souls series' popularity depends 99% on its difficulty, it's highly unlikely that they would make the game easier. By accessibility, it's not yet know whether he meant story or gameplay mechanics with that statement. My guess is on the latter.
And Demon's Souls and Dark Souls' director is supervising the game and I highly doubt he would just let them casualize his baby.

And it was actually the Edge's journalist who brought up The Elder Scrolls series. He hopes that the Souls series would become as popular as it someday.

Did any of you even read the article?

Different director and attempt to appeal to the masses should certainly worry long time fans.

Gaming really doesn't need Dark Souls selling out due to appeal
sdozzo  +   1079d ago
They will do a great job. No worries. Sometime minor changes are welcome. Besides, all we all want is more of the same.
Conan-O-Brady  +   1079d ago

Apparently not.

The majority of gamers today think a game has to be ACCESSIBLE to everyone, so anyone can pick it up and play, like Halo, COD or Angry Birds in order to sell.

I for one cant wait to play Dark Souls 3 with my gram-ma.....I also want to be able to walk into my local convenience store and grab some Dark Souls Doritos and Soul Power Dew....

I'm more worried for my knuckles, controller and tv screen to be honest.
They didn't disappoint with both games so far and they do have us the actual people who play the game in mind so they have me sold no matter what idiots publish shit articles.

i don't want to read the artical , but i think they are talking about the difficulty , it's just stupid mentioning that because they are sucks at games , journalists always play on low difficulty's , it just doesn't make sense talking about Souls in that point of view , i doubt they finished any of the games lol...

they are one of the firsts to love the direction of making games easy to review them faster ...

in my opinion i think they need need to make it easier , make it optional for both players , there are people who enjoy hard games and the others just to want to play for fun and doesnt want to think where to go , they like to follow the mark on the doors and other stuff , so option is great and wont effect anyone , but the problem is that developers these days don't give that option , that's why im bored of gaming , it's getting too easy and childish ...

this way they will get more sales and we the fans will get what we want

1. good reason to be worried but Miyazaki is still involved as a supervisor tho
2. i really hope they don't screw the game's difficulty and make it noob friendly!
3. that's just stupid, the trailer and the music were EPIC!
4. there are some similarities, but DS2 will stil have that unique dark gritty atmosphere, also, i think DS2 is actually a prequel? hinch the dragons, even on the knights helm there is a portray of man fighting a dragon? but i could be wrong

Lol nice bandwagon article IGN.
Veneno  +   1079d ago
