Michael Pachter talks about some of his recent negative Wii U comments, the state of the gaming industry, and about his haters.
My only problem with Nintendo, is that they push Mario more than any of their other IPs. That is why I moved past the Mario games and love their other IPs more. Zelda, Pokemon, Starfox, among others hold more weight than Mario. IMO. I sure this is different for others and I respect that. I want new IPs from them and for them to go back to some of their older IPs, that is not Mario. Next year looks real good for Nintendo, the WII U and I can't wait for Pikmin 3.
The 3 most known faces world wide are..... 1. Mario 2. Micheal Jackson 3. Micheal Jordan It`s the nature of the beast.
Maradona Messi madona mona lisa medusa maria guadalupe(la virgen) I don't get your point
Mario's about as well known in media as Mickey Mouse. Why wouldn't they push that IP?
Because they should push their other IPs too and not just rely only on Mario, for a quick buck. ;)
"Because they should push their other IPs too and not just rely only on Mario, for a quick buck. ;)" How do you consider the 3D Mario games, the ones that actually do new things with the platforming formula, as strung together for a quick buck? Plus, you're talking about relying too much on Mario when many publishers rely on the same IPs each year. I don't see you complaining about that, only Nintendo related ones.
Donald Duck bends Mickey over.
@LOL_WUT Wait, wait, wait. A few years ago people were ragging on Nintendo to make more Mario games, now that they do, they make "too many" and "rely on Mario too much." I don't get it. Complainers gunna complain.
But that is not just nintendo. Sony uses Uncharted. MS uses halo. And the rumor mill seems to indicate no change in this behaivior. It is no different and is onesided to think Nintendo is somehow alone or especially guilty of this kind of thing. That is why many don't like to hear that "complaint"; because it is an industry wide stigma ignored unless it is Nintendo.
Mario has ran from Generation to Generation, Uncharted has only been on PS3 and Vita. Halo has only been on two systems as well. You could mention God Of War, because that has been on 4 platforms in the span of 12 or so years. Again how old is Mario? We don't even see Sonic as much. Next Gen, it might be a different story because it's rumored that Uncharted 4 will be on the next PlayStation Console and Halo will be on the Next Xbox console, but until it's confirmed, it is about Nintendo running Mario on every one of their platforms to sell it. They don't have any new Ips to sell their console. Where was Luigi last Gen and why did it take the 3DS to bring him back, for his OWN game? I'm not hating on Mario, I just wish Nintendo would promote their other IPs. All IPs holders are guilty for doing it and some may say we are just hating because they are making a profit off the name, but in my case it's not. I rather see more of their other IPs, as much as we have seen Mario. Where is the Pokemon spin-off/ cross over, why did it take so long to see Kid Icarus coming back. We don't see much of Sony because, they have other IPs coming. They are getting bad when it comes to Little Big Planet and Uncharted with all those cross overs. Microsoft is just as bad, with Gears, Halo, forza and Fable. They are all to blame when it comes to their Ips, but Mario is on the spot light because we all know Nintendo has a lot of multimillion dollar selling IPs to use, but they rather use Mario.
That is true, but ps and xbox are younger than Nintendo. Of course Nintendo will push its most legendary franchises, and have had more time to have done so; sony has only just attained itself franchises it can parade in such a fasion(having sold off Crash and Spyro) and Halo is MS flagship... in fact, the rate of releases from uncharted and Halo easily outpaces Mario and Zelda despite their relative youth. Furthermore, the GC and GBA were devoid of mario and zelda... which recieved complaints of its own(this may be why they have been pushing them so hard ever since) while Metroid took center stage along with new IP like pikmin, Chibi robo and golden sun, with regional debuts of titles like Advance wars, fire emblem and Animal crossing. So it isn't like they haven't pushed and supported other titles. But the negative reception was there then("no mario? Get this other shit out of my face") and is here now("all Nintendo can do is parade the same antiquated franchises over and over")...
the only reason Uncharted has only been on PS3 is the fact that they hit a goldmine with Uncharted when they released it on PS3. no different from MS with Halo which was came out for originally the XBox, and now we have Halo 4 for Xbox360 (not counting the un-numbered Halos). if Sega's still into consoles now, you'd probably say the same thing for Sonic. the fact is, the character alone is already an icon and that sells. if Mario games don't sell, do you really think Nintendo will still do Mario games. the fact that it sells, like Halo sells for the Xbox, or Uncharted for the PS3 ensures we'll still have the next iteration of Mario games. for Sony, being they lost Crash Bandicoot as their console mascot, it's only natural for them to look for their next "Mario" or "Zelda", that's why they come up with new IPs. they're hoping the next IP they come out with will sell like Uncharted. and when it does, expect more iterations from it. again, no different from Activision's COD, EA's Battlefield, etc. I could go on. and to agree with ronin, how many Uncharted came out for PS3? how many Halos for Xbox 360? see.
Like I said up above though, everybody was asking for more Mario because they didn't "push" him enough just a few years ago. Now, it's too much... *shruggs shoulders* /whatever
haters love patcher because he caters to their nonsense...wiiu is a great system with unbelievable uniqueness and miiverse is great...once nintendo advertize everything the right way and get tvii and more games.....it will be a complete success
I'll say it as many times as it takes: I dislike the sewage that is his opinion because he is constantly wrong, yet continues down incorrect and illogical paths of reasoning with his predictions. The main point of contention with this article I have: where are those software numbers pulled from, and what do they actually represent? I am having a hard time believing this, as Nintendo has led Japanese software all year(unless he is talking only USA, Which is understandable) Are these sales 1st, or 1st and 3rd party inclusive? How do they compare to themselves this year as apposed to last year? That statement is lacking in context, something a person in his position shouldn't be allowing himself to do. @ozzy " I fear they'll discontinue the wii u next month due to poor third party support. Food for thought." Now I know you aren't serious with your recent wiiu comments...^ͺ^ Lol.
His problem is that he doesn't really understand the gamer demographic. He's an economic analyst and economics is a social science for a reason. The entire field is based on the idea of understanding the likes/dislikes and therefore purchasing habits of the target demographic. Gamers are a diverse group and he type-casts them. He thinks he understands our market desires. Re: the whole "Mario" thing, this is a problem in gaming as a whole. Companies pour all their money into the only things they know will sell. So, as someone who doesn't like first person shooters, the whole market is very barren to me. I've been reading a lot of books and playing a lot of board games for my entertainment. If the high specialization in the market doesn't shift away from first person shooters, I'll be leaving video games eventually. There are a lot of entertainment options out there.
I fear they'll discontinue the wii u next month due to poor third party support. Food for thought. For the record I do not own a vita nor am I into handhelds so I'm not exactly concerned with those figures. I own a ps3, 360, and pc and enjoy them for what they bring... So nope, not a fanboy.
Don't ever get into business.
"I fear they'll discontinue the wii u next month due to poor third party support. Food for thought." Seriously? This sounds more like "I'd like that to happen". Even the PS3 had few 3rd party support in its first month. The WiiU only have less than a month on the market. This isn't the right time to judge or to speculate about the console's possible success or failure. "I own a ps3, 360, and pc and enjoy them for what they bring... So nope, not a fanboy. " And...sorry, but this comment isn't helping you much.
Sorry double post.
