Nintendo: For Casual Gamers Only?

Gi - The Nintendo Wii U dropped into stores last month, and the Nintendo 3DS XL launched earlier this year. The Wii U continues Nintendo’s path of making unconventional consoles, replacing the Wii’s revolutionary remote controller with the Wii U GamePad. The 3DS XL, on the other hand, is just a bigger version of the 3DS, which is basically a DS with 3D graphics and a few upgrades.

yes if by casual you mean smashing up a zombies brain to pieces in zombi u, jumping off building to assassinate people in assassin's creed, runing around with an ak47 in a middle of a war in cod, cutting peoples limbs off with a ninja in ninja gaiden 3 ( xbox and ps doesnt do that in 3 because there hardcore) , and fighting nearly to the death tag team style in tekken. also the 3ds has 2 resident evil games, splinter cell and mgs3 too name a few without going into nintendo's casual franchises like zelda and metriod, but yeah if all these games are casual then nintendo certainly is.

I have never really heard such arguments when it comes to something as blurred as core and casual gaming. Casual gaming to me is mostly handheld phones and Facebook games, while pretty much anything on a dedicated console or handheld are core.

Nintendo has always been what I'd consider family friendly, and it's hard to argue with the success that they've had with that. I believe that people look for different reasons just to hate on Nintendo and that is the easiest target.

when i think of casual gamers i think people who only buy like 1 or 2 games a year such as cod or madden and that ends up all they are playing cause i refuse to call people who only play facebook games gamers

This argument is so ridiculous and overdone. But whatever. Plenty of "hardcore gamers" like Nintendo. Period. End of story. I'm sorry some people just can't wrap their heads around that. It's like you're only a "gamer" if you put on a headset, turn on your 360, and play Halo.

I'm 27 years old and have been playing games since I was 4. I've had Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Playstation, N64, PS2, PS3, and Wii consoles. I've also had Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo 3DS, PSP, and Vita. I've loved my Wii. And I want a Wii U. But yea, I must not be "hardcore" because I like Nintendo.

I'm 28 and have gamed since I was 4. Going through all of these consoles have been exciting times. It's just too bad to see so many of my fellow gamers become so bitter, jaded, and pessimistic.

ive had every single system and nintendo rocks. wii u is awesome only haters say bad things about it. ok launch line, tekken, zombie u, mario, nintendo land ill even throw n COD for the fan boys, totally worth it. the system itself is even worth it even if u didn't by games. hulu, netflix, a better youtube, a better internet. wii u rocks. shut this site down like G4 lol

Why is it that so many people who believe themselves gamers insist that gaming is for only them and their demographic. Grow up! Gaming is for everyone, and you should be happy that more and more people are getting into gaming as a hobby. It means that our lifestyle is becoming more and more socially acceptable, and that's a good thing. Who cares if Nintendo makes games for everybody? They really do make games for EVERYBODY, and by "everybody" I mean they truly do cover all demographics. In fact, if you count the titles, you'll notice that the traditional gamer has always received far more support from Nintendo than the less traditional gamer.
