The Wii U has launched to about 307,000 units in its first week in Japan. This is a little over triple the sales the PS3 had when it launched.
Vita had similar sales then fell off a cliff in the weeks after. Launch numbers are no indication of how a system will do in the future.
I was expecting more (Releasing with Monster Hunter and Mario), but this is only a few days of sales. So, I'm not going to look to much into it. The Vita didn't really have any or that many Japanese oriented titles at launch. Their launch titles were geared more for the West.
True, but the Vita's launch in Japan was terrible. Not in terms of quality, but a lot of the games were already available on the PS3 or PSP and the big exclusive at launch was Uncharted and we know how Japan feels about Western games. Wii U launching with Monster Hunter and Mario will more than likely help keep sales from dropping like the Vita, not to mention Dragon Quest in March will help as well.
I'd agree but this is Nintendo in Japan were talking about so yeah u can probably work out how it will sell going off the first week sales in all regions as Nintendo sells because of quality software.
Are you afraid?
No, it really doesn't. To put it into perspective....the Vita had a better launch than the Wii U in Japan.
lol, the Wii U will surpass the Vita's lifetime sales in Japan within a couple of months.
How many units did the Vita move in week 1 in Japan?
that's what people are telling you ... both moved around the same at launch . Wich basically means nothing , either way
...and to put it in REAL perspective you then have divide Wii U/3 to get how the PS3 did.
Cant look at numbers this early. They look nice yea, but real numbers come after a price drop. Ask the wii.... Ill cop a wiiU when the price drop comes... Well depending on the games that's out by then. I was suckered into buying a wii last time most games played was bowling, Mario, Zelda, metriod. That's it in that order. 4 games all first party. I hope the wiiU doesn't repeat the same patten.
Why wait? 350 is more than fair for a new system. Heck, my last video card alone was 270. 350 is a bargain for new console. Also, that's too bad you couldn't find any more of the great Wii games. I actually bought more Wii games during its' lifetime than I bought for my PS3 and 360 combined. If you look hard enough, there are some pretty amazing titles.
Did you try to find anymore Wii games other than Mario, Zelda & Metroid? There's plenty of quality Wii games out there it's just that no one has ever heard of them. Like RPGs? Try Xenoblade. Like games with Metroid style non-linearity and gorgeous 2D hand drawn graphics? Try Muramasa. Like games that are hard as hell? Try Sin and Punishment or Donkey Kong Country Returns. Unique but addictive games? Trauma Center New Blood. Those were only a few, obviously there's more. But I hate it when people say the Wii had nothing to play, then name off all of the quality games I just listed and more then they retort with "never heard of it". Well that's your own fault. Granted if you have tried these games and don't like them and or don't like any of the genres I listed, then i'll kindly respect your opinion and shut up.
Don't get me wrong, I know it had good 3rd party games and these games I've heard of. My real gripe is the whole flailing the wii controller like a Jedi knight thing. I'd tolerate it for the big time AAA games but it really was my biggest turn off.
That's a good list . But you forget one important element most of those game were released quite some time apart from each other . If you werent a nintendo game fans and owning a wii , there were massive moment of joy , but also harsh and long times of drought . 3rd party support was far from stellar . And quite frankly since when does any console lacked a list of a dozen hits at the end of its life ? Only the ngage so far .
Sony only shipped 100,000 PS3s that sold out immediately. there was a massive shortage because of blu ray diods problem.
its only been out in Japan for 3 days not a week
exactly. i was about to say the same thing. a week is generally "7" days. it should sell close to a milion for its first week in japan given that monster hunter 3 was a launch game. plus mario and the included DQX beta.
Yup it should sell around I million units in a week thats would be perfect
Anyone who is a fan of games should pickup a WiiU. MaroU is one of the best 2D Mario Games Ive played. ZombieU is every horror games fan dream game as it has the feel that Res 1 to 4 had.
COD of all games is fun on the WiiU too. (Im not a COD fan but wanted to see how FPS and online worked and Im impressed with the way it works and not had any issues playing online)
Nintendo Land is also one of the games that took me buy surprise on how fun it is with 2 or more players.
Im sure the WiiU will sell well this new gen.
Not a bad start it seems nintendo will hit 1 million wii u before the end of the year World Wide!
lol comparing vita to wiiu is a joke...wiiu is miles ahead of vita in all ways ...plus vita's main failure is because sony doesnt know how to handle portables by making the vita basically a ps3 portable instead of it having its own identity.....its better to compare wiiu sales to ps3 and wii and it shows wiiu despite bad commercials and haters and bad press is going to win this generation
Sales for Wii U will spike for these games (least to greatest)
Legend of Zelda
Super New Ultra Super Mario Bros. World Universe Wii U They Us
Super Smash Brothers (Wii U's Economic Stimulus)
No actually they sold around 88,000 first week. So the PS3 did not sell out. Anyone know how many Wii Us were shipped first week?
