Mass Effect (PlayStation Network) Review - Push Square

Push Square: "Launching five years after its original Xbox 360 debut, Mass Effect has finally landed on the PlayStation 3, completing the series' sci-fi trilogy on Sony's console. However, the title's late arrival places it in an awkward position, destined to be judged against the sequels it spawned. Has the classic aged gracefully? Not entirely." (Mass Effect, PS3) 6/10

No, if its the exact same game, it should get the exact same score.

We don't live in a bubble, though. Times change.

What does that have to do with anything? ME1 is considered by many to be the best in the series, and it was released to rave reviews for its time.

Think of it this way: nobody retro reviews Super Mario Bros. by the standard of the new games. You review a game for what it is, not for what you wanted it to be, not for what other games are.

Well I have 20 hours in so far and it played great

OFC its the best version, bioware said it,EA said it
ME1 ps3 version have ME2-3 kits unlike the xbox version and pc.

haters might hate but that doesnt change the fact that ME1 best version is on the ps3 end of story.

This review sucks ass

I'm sure that you could compose a much better one, given your exemplar writing skills.

Hmmm, best game in the series, but get's a low score. How strange..
JusticeDwarf  +   164d ago
A 6/10 is not a low score. Anything below a 5 is.
DigitalRaptor  +   164d ago
Okay, but I meant that in relative terms. If the best in the series is a 6/10, what does that make ME2 and ME3?
JusticeDwarf  +   164d ago
As far as the reviewer is concerned, ME1 is not the best in the series. Saying it is is mere opinion, not universal for everyone.

It would be totally fair to give the sequels higher scores if the author deemed them worthy, since reviews are ultimately opinion pieces.

Bullllsh!t. I have about 35 hours invested into this and I can say without a doubt that this game is amazing. From starting with 2 and going to this, the only thing better about ME2 is the combat. ME1 is much more of a RPG than it's sequels. The lore is also more intact in the first one. Now all that aside, the ps3 version has only one issue I've come across, audio sync. Sometimes the character will start talking before the audio kicks in but that's not to big of a deal. There is also no screen tearing here, which I've heard was a problem on the 360 version.

Basically, this game is well worth the $15 it cost to purchase. If you've played 2 and 3, this is a no brainer. Small audio issues aside, I can see why fans prefer 1 to it's sequels.

I'm about 8 hours in and I've had hardly any problems with the game. So far I've had less problems with this than I had with ME2 and 3.

If you don't have ME1 on the PS3 and have 2 and 3, BUY THIS NOW.

Love this quote.

"the gameplay is a stark reminder of how far the series has progressed since 2007." More like degressed.

I also don't understand the problems everyone seems to have with shooting, I played as a soldier from day 1 and I never had a problem with it, and how does the author have trouble with overheating as opposed to ammo clips? That just makes no sense...if you see it going to high stop shooting for 2 seconds dang.

Also the comments on the bottom show how far the gaming industry has come to spoon feed you...someone complaining that a sniper rifle is harder to use in 1 than they are use to in 2 and 3 ...A SNIPER RIFLE!

Everytime I read a article about Mass Effect nowadays all I get is anger rising inside me for what Bioware did to my favorite franchise.
