Black Ops 2 Players Getting Unjust Probation Notices? Tips for Demolition, S & D Players
GR - "It seems people are getting "probation" notices in Black Ops 2 even if the host migrated. Read on for that and for a good tip on bomb planting/defusing."
(Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
Ignore the name, I can vouch for these unfair probations. I know my name is Master Chief and lots will infer that I'm a Call of Duty troll because of that, blah blah blah, but trust me. I love Blops II. I LOVE IT! :D
But two things are severely setting back the fun factor for myself, and many others: Connection issues, and probations. Some people are getting probation for fair reasons: quitting because they're losing so badly, dashboarding so they don't get penalized (oh the irony), etc. etc.
However, some people, such as myself, only quit when the game server disconnects us. It has happened countless times. I'm playing a match, then a host migration... then I get kicked back to the main menu. Sometimes the host migrations work, and the game resumes, but I'd argue that 1 of every 3 games where there is a host migration, kicks you back to the main menu with "Server connection has been lost."
Blame it on bad internet, or what-have-you, but it's a fact that Blops II, despite how fun it is for some of us (I know there are tons of haters out there, but meh), contains some of the worst online infrastructure I have ever experienced in a AAA title. Overloaded servers are one thing, but it has now been almost a month since release... Treyarch needs to get their **** together.
Where I'm going with this is that, some of us are getting probations for getting disconnected from the host. Innocent players are being punished for Treyarch/Activision's abysmal infrastructure.
To be honest, I think that this will always be a problem that is sadly unavoidable. I think the issues arise because when the host quits, the game migrates to a new host and sometimes you can end up having an NAT conflict with the host (which is why it doesn't happen all the time, only sometimes) and thus, because you're the one establishing the connection to the new host, you get booted when it fails (rather than vice versa).
Since the COD games have such ridiculously large playerbases and many of these people have no idea how to configure their routers and open the required ports for optimal connectivity, it's just something that will always be a problem I think.
At the end of the day, the only solution to this problem is to use dedicated servers, but since this would be such a large undertaking for a game with a ridiculously large playerbase, I don't think it will ever happen. It's a shame because they make enough money that they should cough up the cash to do so, but won't because they know that they can get away without it.
It doesn't stop my enjoyment of COD though. Black Ops 2 doesn't appeal to me at all, but I still regularly play and enjoy Modern Warfare 3.
Um... when did either of us say anything about quitting because we're doing badly? Reading the entirety of a post before replying is a key component of understanding what the hell you're talking about, good sir.
Either you mistook me saying "probation for fair reasons" as "valid reasons for quitting", or you read me saying "...only quit when the server disconnects us..." as "only quit when we're doing badly."
And there was nothing in the first reply to warrant that comment from you... so I'm assuming you're talking about my post, and as such, I think I cleared up any confusion you may have had.
Edit: I see now. When I said "getting probation for fair reasons", I meant that the people deserved to be on probation. Not that the reasons listed were fair for the person to do. Does that make sense? Apologies for the above statements. They came off as a little harsh, I think haha. I'm sorry if I offended you.

'tis very sucky.. :(

Yeah, dedicated servers would be boss, and I'm sure they have the money for it, but they're hellbent on that not being a priority haha.
How don't you comprehend that. ^ This is WHY they have probation.
So babies like you don't quit and ruin the game for everyone.
When you lose, you learn, you get better, you figure out how you lost and correct the mistake.
* When you always win, you aren't actually getting better or improving.
