Loved DW5:Empires and 6 Empires too and I love creating characters. So I'll definitely love this one too. Can't wait to play it.

I think DW7 Empires will be a much better than DW6 Empires.

Its already been confirmed by the gamers who have the Japaneese version that DW7Empires is easily the best.

DW7:Empires is the first DW game where tactics can play just important role in battles as button smashing. Heck there is even trophies for winning battles without swinging your weapon.

The tactics make the game totally unpredictable, and turn difficult battles into easy battles, and easy battles into difficult battles. See below for proof.

During my battles against the Nanman, we were completely overpowering them. Then one of Meng Huo's officers used Flood, which, well, flooded about half the battlefield. Wiped out a good 3/4s of my army and turned a mop up battle into a tough slog.

Ah, and of course if you make a mistake (or your allies do), your own tactics can backfire. Literally, in the case of Major Fire Attack (which sets a certain section of the battlefield aflame). Since unlike Fire Attack it affects friendly units (including yourself), you can very easily find yourself so weak a charging peasant can finish you.

My personal favourite is when I'm in a walled base and an ally uses Base Defense, whereby all the gates of all allied bases close. Leaving me trapped inside my own base while my troops are being slaughtered outside.

From what I've seen, that's a given. Everything in this game looks fantastically better than the previous ones. Specially the created characters, even though I've seen little of it.
