Rated M for Maturity

GdiNews: "The M or 18 rating used to be reserved for games which were simply violent or bloody and games such as Mortal Kombat had the rating slapped on them from the word go. But these days having a higher age rating means more than just violence and gore. It covers far more mature aspects of storytelling, gameplay and emotion in games."

The story is too old to be commented.

Good article if a little thin. I do however agree with the implied point.

Well, maturity SHOULD be the point of the rating. It just so happens, though, that many games that tackle the more adult-oriented themes also don't shy away from the violence and things that would give them the "mature" rating.

I feel like there should almost be a separate rating for mature THEMES than for mature CONTENT. A game with nudity or drug use isn't for kids, but that's different from a game that explores complex psychological themes.

Persona doesn't get an M rating for graphic violence, after all.

It's very ironic, true. And I've been saying this for a long time. Mature ratings these days indicate immaturity.

Rated M for My Mother Making Me Mountain MonkeyLand.

Nexgensensation1327d ago

when the content of the game is the thing making a game rated Mature and while everthing about the game is rated E for everyone.

So my thing is this, if its rated M let the game be sophisticated so maybe seeing sex in video games won't be such a big deal.
