Review: The Walking Dead Episode Five: Out of Time (Multi) - TGV

The Gaming Vault writes:

"‘Out of Time‘ caps off what has been an emotionally draining first season of Telltale Games’ adaptation of Robert Kirkman‘s The Walking Dead graphical novella and does so with the sort of dramatic bombast expected of the source material that it so fervently (and successfully) seeks to emulate.

Following the established blueprint lain thus far by previous episodes, its business as usual in the final episode of the season; you choose your dialogue with the other survivors, make life or death choices and amble about solving trivial logical conundrums which operate as little else than a pacing device for the narrative.

Such a depressingly clinical evaluation of this finale and which is applicable by proxy, to this entire first season of The Walking Dead, does what the developer has achieved here little justice however as Telltale’s latest effort is their finest; a carefully crafted kaleidoscope of emotionally harrowing moral dichotomies, deep characterisation and bleak atmospheric menace." (The Walking Dead Episode 5: No Time Left, Xbox 360) 8/10

Update Title and associated refs are meant to say 'No Time Left', not 'Out of Time'.

This was a ten out ten for me. Easily my game of the year.

Reading these reviews and seeing it win GotY at the VGAs had me very excited to pick up the LE on Tuesday from GameStop.

I've got all of this sitting on my PS3 right now, but I'm trying so hard to finish up the games I'm already playing. Ugh... editing/reviewing for the gaming industry makes is so hard to play other games that I want to play. Haha

You're seriously missing out.

Forget all that other crap, and out aside a day or two for this. You'll probably need to put aside a few days to recover from the emotional turmoil of the whole experience as well.

Oh, I'm getting there really fast - I just don't have much time. I work a full-time day job and I'm an editor at a gaming website at night, which comes with a minimum of one game a week to review, so it's hard to get to other things.

I'm wrapping up inFAMOUS 2 in the next few days and then it's the next thing on my list. I'll be on it in the next week or two for sure and I can't wait.

Oh, I did give the first episode a look to get an idea of what's in store and... WOW! It's disgustingly brilliant indeed!

Uhhhh.... Episode 5 is titled No Time Left. I'm not a stickler for typos, but at least make sure you're using the correct title of the game you're reviewing...

Out of time was the title of the final episode of the "Back to the Future" game made by Telltale.
