Why Movie Based Video Games Suck

Jumpman of Ludos-Mundi.com Goes On Another Rant

Hey, did you see Iron Man 2? Of course you did. Did you play the super awful Iron Man 2 videogame? Let us hope not, or let us at least hope that you got it on Gamefly and returned the game with no vomit stains. Why do video games from movies and fads suck so bad? If the games suck, why do they keep putting them out on the market? (Culture, Dev, Industry, PS3, Retro, Xbox 360)

Well, basically because they are shovel ware with small budgets and really short development times. They are just cash ins over a films popularity. If the film becomes a great franchise, there can be good games made based on the IP in some cases, but direct movie games pretty much always suck.

thats true in most cases but Matrix Path of Neo is an excellent Movie game along with enter the matrix if you would count that one as well

Even lord of the rings games weren't that bad either.

i agree 99.9% of the time, but for some reason i absolutely LOVE Wolverine: Origins.

I even went as far as getting the platinum trophy for it, the combat wasn't anywhere near as deep as GOW or DMC, but it had enough variation and content to keep me hooked. Never got tired of the leaping 200ft to rip peoples arms off etc either.

Was really the first time i'd personally seen any comic/movie/game brave enough to show how brutal and gory Wolverine really WOULD be in the real world with those powers. Blood splatter everywhere, limbs sent flying, being reduced near to a skeleton when heavily damaged and physically being able to see his entire body of wounds recover.

Great game in my opinion =)

Edit @DarkBlood, On the topic of The Matrix, i effing loved Enter The Matrix on PS2, i must have completed that game at least 15 times with the Max Payne rivalling slow-mo.

Wolverine Origins was an excellent true to character brutal game. The same can be said of the Riddick titles.

because developers don't get a big enough budget and they are rarely given enough time. a few years back there was a wolverine game that was movie tie in but it was a great game. so it can be done

but most times movie studios only want a quick cash in on the name.

some of the movies could produce awesome game if given to right developer with time and a proper budget

there is a reason UBI has open their own movie studios because they believe they can treat their IP's better than anyone else. also bad movie games is one of the main reason THQ is in such a big trouble

One word "Batman" those games were amazing.

You also have to remember that games back in the NES days had much shorter dev cycles, a good game could be completed in a few months instead of todays years.

But I agree, NES Batman was the best!

DAT MUSIC!!!
