A Tribute to Sitting Still: The Stealth Games of 2012

IncGamers' Peter Parrish looks back at 'stealth-style' games of this year that impressed and what made them stand out.

"Thief: The Dark Project was the first title to teach me the effectiveness of a simple, subverted concept. Thief asked: “what if you hid from the monsters in an FPS instead of shooting them?” It was a straightforward question with a revelatory answer, and the game’s interlocking mechanics can all be traced back to it. The function of light and shadow (because you need to be able to stay out of sight); the superb sound design (because you need to both be able to gauge your own noise levels and hear other people’s); and the lovely bag of gadgetry (because sometimes you need a hand slipping past trouble)." (Dishonored, Hitman: Absolution, Mark of the Ninja, PC, Thief)
