Ratchet & Clank: Q Force Review | A Distracted Insomniac? [Dealspwn]

Dealspwn writes: The game is admittedly only a cheap download, but so was Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty, which featured ‘proper’ stages with a miniature single-player campaign. The graphics are admittedly excellent as per usual and the few cutscenes on offer never fail to be amusing (thank you, Captain Quark), but this feels like a Ratchet & Clank game from a studio clearly looking more towards their next project, Fuse. I hope Insomniac do come back and make another full-on Ratchet & Clank game. Failing that, maybe Sony should consider seeing who else would like to work on the series.

I got the game day 1 thinking the Vita version would be available to download... kinda pissed it wasn't. I just played a bit on the PS3 because I mainly bought it to play on Vita and I don't want to wear the game out before the Vita version gets released. It okay... nothing impressive, but it should be a great Ratchet game on the go since it's designed with closed in levels and strategy type of gameplay.

dorron4149d ago

Same situtation here.

Worth the buy since it was only 17€ for both versions, but the game is nowhere near what a ratchet game should be.

Wake up Insomniac! Go back to ACIT style gameplay!

bggriffiths4149d ago

ACIT-style again for sure. I still enjoyed All 4 One a lot more than this one though.

HowarthsNJ4149d ago

This is a mini-game like Quest For Booty only with tower defense/multi-player.

DOMination-4149d ago

Insomniac are really losing their touch. Next gen they should release less games and concentrate on making them better. I know they can produce quality but i think this is ten games now for ps3 if you include fuse. That is quite a lot...

Nodoze4149d ago

Agreed 100%. All of their attention is on FUSE, which frankly looks like utter garbage. If you placed it on the shelf next to the other 600 shooters on the market, there is nothing that screams buy me.

I would argue that the first video they showed should have been more in line with what they are going to deliver, at least it looked unique. Now it is just noise.

I wish them well, but branching out to go multiplatform is the beginning of the end of this studio (unless they are bought out by Sony).

I'm not even sure I'm gonna buy this one.. was so disappointed in the 'All4one' and the ones before that wasn't that exiting... somehow i am still returning to the Ratchet & Clank Gladiator for PS2??? that was the best one in the series for me ever..

Man... what i wouldnt give to have a full PS5 UHD of all the R&C games in one collection. i guess streaming them on PS+ is the next best thing (or naturally a PS3)

Aloymetal532d ago

Rift was a joy to play, absolutely beautiful.

FallenAngel1984532d ago

They couldn’t make PS2 versions of those R&C games like they did with the J&D games?

mkis007532d ago

considering they are ps3 games that never had ps2 versions....no.

CobraKai531d ago

Yeah? You might wanna double check that.

mkis007531d ago

Kobra
What fan that waited for launch day needs to know? There were 4 ps2 games the rest starting with tools was ps3 only. Quest for booty, a crack in time, nexus, full frontal assault were ps3 games.

FallenAngel1984531d ago

You really saying Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and Ratchet: Deadlocked weren’t on PS2? 🤨

theandinator92531d ago

Even Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank had PS2 versions...

mkis007531d ago

Of course I wasn't talking about the actual ps2 games...why would they need to make ps2 versions of ps2 games? That is why I only included the ps3 games in my comment.

FallenAngel1984531d ago

@ no

You must’ve misunderstood what I asked for.

I’m saying they should’ve made PS2 Classic versions of these Ratchet & Clank titles on PS4 so they’d be downloadable just like Jak & Daxter had rather than just streaming the PS3 versions

mkis007530d ago

Ya I realized you meant emulated versions after the fact.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is amazing. I really hope Insomniac are working on more. I'm always up for another Ratchet & Clank game.

CobraKai531d ago

I think it’s still the only “Next Gen” game that truly looks next gen.

Levii_92532d ago

Sick ! R&C is still one of my favourite franchises.

Ranking the Ratchet and Clank Games from Worst to Best

From Xfire: "Insomniac Games first introduced the unlikely duo of Ratchet and Clank back in 2002 on the PlayStation 2. Since then, the series has taken audiences on a journey that has spanned not just an entire galaxy, but multiple dimensions, with its most recent outings."

Levii_921034d ago

Best games of the franchise are Up Your Arsenal, A Crack in Time, 2016 Remake and without a doubt the newest one Rift Apart. You simply can’t go wrong with these.

Man what a glorious game series.

neutralgamer19921034d ago

Only ones I don't like as much are all 4 one and full frontal assault other than that all games are awesome( even these are good games just not up to the standard of other games in the series)

victorMaje1034d ago

Nice article, good list, they're all fun & I love this game!
Rift Apart is spectacular.
Insomniac are wizards, I want their next game to be a new Resistance. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next.

DOMination-1034d ago

Ryan Mccaffrey said last week that Resistance 4 was in development but Sony cancelled it due to the high number of post-apocalyptic games around at the moment.

victorMaje1034d ago

Well that’s a shame. I feel they could do something truly special with today’s technology.

chicken_in_the_corn1034d ago

I'm looking forward to playing Rift Apart then the whole series sometime afterward. Up Your Arsenal is my favourite

A Look at All of the 3D Platformers Available on Vita

VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "3D platformers have long been a favourite genre of mine. Growing up on the likes of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon on PS1 means I’ve been conditioned to love the colourful, vibrant worlds and the exploration-based gameplay that often goes with the 3D platformer. In recent generations the genre has stalled, with fewer new releases and publishers unwilling to invest in new titles, and even older mascots falling by the wayside.

Yet thanks to its brilliant backwards-compatibility with PS1 and PSP games, the Vita has become something of a home for the neglected genre, with plenty of classic games playable (especially thanks to HD Remasters from the PS2 era) and a few brilliant modern titles thrown into the mix too."
