Halo series sales hit 50 million

Microsoft has now sold 50 million Halo games since the series launched more than a decade ago with 2001's Halo: Combat Evolved. The company announced the news this morning, reiterating that players have spent more than 5 billion hours playing Halo on Xbox Live.

Prior to Halo 4's worldwide launch on November 6, the Halo series stood at 46 million in sales. This suggests Microsoft's newest entry has shifted 4 million copies thus far. Halo 4 generated $220 million in 24-hour revenue at launch, with $300 million expected for its first week.

(Looks to the left sees FPS's, looks to the right sees more FPS's) Where's the balance here?

kingPoS1357d ago (Edited 1357d ago )

I meant to say I'd like to see more side-scrollers, top down, third person games ect. While I do enjoy a First Person Shooter game every now and then, I don't play them "all" the time. Basically what I'm saying is that I hope the next "Big" game tries for something new or different from the norn. That's all! it's nothing against Halo, it's against the over saturated fps genre.

Thats gotta be like one of the worst comments ever. You say you want side scrollers, top down 3rd person. Why bring that up at all? If you got a problem with the amount of fps then go make a blog! Did you play halo wars? Best fps around ;)

I'll give Microsoft credit, they may not have a ton of exclusives, but they know how to make the very few ones they have rite. You don't hear that with Sony or Nintendo.

@ sandman224

I know you were trying to bait Sony and Nintendo fans, but actually both consoles have one franchise that has sold that amount or even more this gen (See, Gran Turismo franchise(65 million), Wii Sports (Just that one game, 79 million lol).

Sp1d3ynut1357d ago

A pack-in game doesn't count, dude. If it was only packed in for special holiday bundles, like MS and Sony do with their exclusives, then it could.

Montrealien1357d ago

So does that mean we need to take Gran Turismo off that list?

Sp1d3ynut1357d ago

@ Montealien..

Not really. As I said, MS and Sony do pack-ins for certain exclusives, but only for certain occasions, like launch or Holiday bundles. Wii Sports only sold 79 million BECAUSE it was packed-in. Until Nintendo released Wii Sports 2, every new Wii came with WS1, and it counted as a (bogus)software sale for them. Sure, Wii Sports may have been the best game to really enjoy the Wii controls with, since most other games failed miserably with them...but anyone who actually bought the game separately, likely got it used.

@ Sp1d3ynut and Montrealien

I guess Halo doesn't count as well, huh lol? Most of the Halo games that came out was bundle or packed with another game with the Xbox360.

"Oh, but but that's different."

Edit: At possible disagrees, come on. I showed you Halo 3 packed in with Fable 2, Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST packed in with Halo Reach.

You're right Dante, now what?
