Wii U getting Nico Nico app in Japan

It looks like tonight’s Nintendo Direct mini was created for one primary reason. Satoru Iwata hosted a live presentation to announce and show off a new Nico Nico app for Japanese Wii U systems.

The app will work on any television once connected to the service. Wii U owners can search for videos on the GamePad and then watch the content on the TV – and yes, HD is supported. Rankings are supported, as are a favorites list and playlists.

Japan will be receiving the Nico Nico app on December 8, when the Wii U launches in Japan. It will be available as a free download. (Nico Nico Douga, Wii U)
