My phone can't even replace my handheld consoles so it has no chance of replacing my dedicated gaming consoles.

my phone is for making phone calls and sending text message, with the occasional internet browsing and tethering to other devices, nothing more... nothing less

so, no it will not...

What a waste of money, why not spend it on something more worthwhile like making longer life batteries for phones?

I'd like for the Vita to be like this. The all-in-one device. Have a game, decide I want to go somewhere, take it with me, then come home and dock it into a PS4, keep playing with better visuals.

As for my phone? Pass. Developers can't handle it and always want new tech. See crappy games that can't use a 3 month old phone because it "doesn't have enough power" really? And don't really need texts and calls interrupting my game either.

There are no buttons on my phone so NO my phone will NEVER replace my consoles. I really think the media is inventing this headline, phone games are cheap that's why they sell they are no where near the quality of console even handheld games.

Did you even watch the video and see what it's about ? I'm not behind this but, man you really should read the article / watch video before placing a comment next time.

Smartphones get yearly updates in hardware
I'm seeing this from the casual consumer's perspective. Can the gaming industry survive on core gaming, alone?
Balcrist  +   687d ago
But how many people can afford to buy new smartphones annually?

The casual gaming market is big, but to them, Angry Birds is a game, to everyone else, its just something to do when you've nothing else to do....

Back to affordability, if microsoft and sony wanted to, they could make gaming consoles that could export graphics in 4k, have frame rates of 180 fps, with 4 gigs of ram and an internal HDD of 2 Tb.... but they don't because most people won't be able to afford it...

If Microsoft and Sony...
Choose to subsidize their future consoles (like phone companies do with new cellular phones), then it won't be a problem. This is the type of ingenuity that puts Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft on their toes.

An ''all-in-one'' smartphone/tablet that does it all, is something I'm sure casual gaming consumers will flock to.

I find it ironic that in order for phones to compete with consoles, they effectively have to become consoles. It's even more ironic that we were told that phones and pads were the future of gaming, BEFORE the idea of attaching a controller was mentioned. Now we see that they're trying to compete with consoles by becoming consoles with a controller and TV connectivity... Let's face it, what we are seeing here is proof that people want consoles, NOT phones, because (and I'll repeat) in order for phones to compete with consoles, they have to become consoles.

If that seemed convoluted, then I managed to convey exactly why I've always said the argument never made sense. All this will ever accomplish is lower the expectations for future gamers and set the industry back 10 years or more. 'AAA' titles would become 'aaa' titles and teenagers would never understand where the industry was going and that what they think is a top tier game would be a bargain bin game to a seasoned CONSOLE and PC gamer. This is like going from Blu-ray to VHS and saying 'WOW, look at the quality!'

The controller they offer (yep, it's an advertisement) looks exactly like X360 controller so no, thank you.

Anyway, I can plug in any USB controller into my S3 with $2 adapter because it has the USB hub feature.
