Vita's Biggest Problem: Price Or Lack Of Available AAA Software?

Sony's new handheld isn't the hottest item in the world, but why? Is it the relatively high price, lack of big-time games, or something else...? (PS Vita)

Memory card price.
People complaining, a lot.
And people saying they hate it, there's no games, it sucks, etc. when they've never even held one or looked up the games that are out and are being developed for it.
Other than that, it's fine in my eyes.

I can't believe how much I paid for the 32gb. I bought it the day I got my Vita. With a screen protector. And a case. And $100 in PSN cards. All on day one.

It was around $500, I think. My wallet had to go to therapy for a month.

sony should get out of the handheld market and focus their strength on their consoles. nintendo owns that market and always have. they could save that money and invest it towards making ps4 a big success. thats my thoughts anyway.

Sadly it is both price & games,

Sony's target market for the PS Vita are the core gamers, the console gamers, the teens to adult gamers, those who are working and can afford to buy their own gadgets & games.

While Nintendo's target market are the children who have parents to buy for them to keep them occupied & busy while mom and dad work or mind their business. these are also the types of parents who can't afford to give their kids expensive electronics like PS Vita, smart phone or tablet.

Therefore the types of games follow.

Kids out number adults but as a parent would you buy your 5 year old kid a PS Vita to play Persona 4 or Soul Sacrifice?

Video Gaming is a niche market and Sony is targeting a niche with in a niche.

No matter how you spin it portable gaming is generally perceived as CHEAP gaming for kids & young adults.

It is a concept that Android and iDevices successfully adopted to their strategies. Given their massive user base they can offer games even much more cheaper than Nintendo.

Sony should start making Vita a platform for both kids & adults! Make the Vita a well rounded all around system.

If Sony wants to do the impossible like they did with PS One by bringing the adults play console games be my guess! Carve your own path again but at least do not neglect Nintendo's market.

Look at Microsoft, Xbox 360 went for the PS2 market pie and ran off with half of the pie!

Now with games like Monster Hunter 4 Nintendo is going for the PSP market & now they are running off with more than half the pie.

Nintendo is currently making a 3DS successor as Miyamoto announced it as soon as they launched the 3DS.
And I bet they could be as powerful as the PS Vita upon launch but the difference will be their pricing, target gamers and the games - it will still be geared heavily towards kid friendly games and some games for the young adult.

I agree.I feel like the system has already been abandoned. Sony made that much clear at Tokyo game show, where they showed very little support outside of a pair of spin-off games from two major console series'. What makes that fact even clearer is that we will now be entering a 2013 period that does not contain a single retail system sellers release for the Vita.

below: This game is no system seller.

Uhmm what about Tearaway? Brand new IP by the developer that brought us LittleBigPlanet.

Soul Sacrifice, another brand new IP.

And they've promised many more game announcements in the coming months.

Therefore, why don't you stop trolling on every Vita related article you can find and go do something productive with your time.

one correction * 'guess' should be 'guest' XD

Well anything is a guess at this point will they go for mass market like Nintendo, Android or iOS....or not?

Oh another problem with Sony as Kaz Hirai said is 'SPEED.'

As in Sony so dragged by so many divisions & bureaucracy decision making is very slow to implement.
No matter how good their decisions, or strategies are they are useless if they don't make it on time.

At least Sony are finally advertising the damn thing heavily (in the UK at least)...

Hand helds shouldn't cost anywhere near the price of a whole console.

Needs games more applicable to a handheld. People complain on price but they still bought one or a memory card. Look at all the expensive crap in life... Why do we buy it, because it has cool shit. Not the price.

For me it would be more unique games for the handheld experience. I don't think the console experience can ever be translated well to portable devices. They had the right idea with Sound shapes but it didn't help because they offer the same experience on the PS3. I personally do not tend to play handheld games on the go but rather at home. With the Vita although it is a fantastic piece of hardware and I feel priced fairly, There is not much on there that can only be experienced on the Vita.

I think the Vita needs more exclusive games BUT not console style but made both only possible on the Vita using its features and optimized for a portable experience.

Has the AAA monicker not been typically reserved for console and PC titles in the past. I just can not remember a time when I've heard of a mobile game referred to as a AAA game.

When you see a journalist, or excuse me, "journalist," stupidly misuse the word AAA like this, ignore it.
