Brace Yourself: Another Hour Long Wii U Update is Now Available

Just one day shy of the Nintendo Direct Feed, the Nintendo Wii U Facebook page promises yet another hour long system update. (Wii U)

You know that it is replacing data, right? It's not just as though it keeps adding up. Also, I assume you are one of the ones who still believes that the last update was actually 5gb.
Cam977  +   880d ago
In a few years it'll be obselete, just like the 20Gb ps3.
SilentNegotiator  +   879d ago
@stragomccloud

But not entirely. Some of that new data is still building up.

Wii U(pdate). xD
PopRocks359  +   880d ago
I think it depends on the circumstances. Mine's been going longer than an hour but my friend got through it in around twenty minutes.

EDIT: While I know it fixes some technical issues, I am curious as to what exactly this update does.

@LaWiiG

Does that really increase the connection speed? My PS3 has been wirelessly connected to my router and has almost never given me the issues my Wii gave me (no real issues outside of these slow updates for my Wii U).

Mine has been chugging away for about 20mins. I have a decent connection and router. I did however grab one of the LAN adapters from eBay. Can't come soon enough.
-Mika-  +   880d ago
Im not trolling pop but Nintendo probably using cheap servers for the WiiU. That would explain the slow speeds.
PopRocks359  +   880d ago
"Im not trolling"

I stopped reading after this point. Good day.
Realplaya  +   880d ago
Damn you comment negative on every nintendo post.
Zhipp  +   880d ago
Dang. Looks like practically everybody hates you, Mika.
stragomccloud  +   880d ago
It wouldn't be a proper Wii U article without Mika.
daclynk  +   880d ago

Already setting itself up to be the new PS3 in terms of updates, eh?

Well played, Nintendo. Well played.
ceballos77mx  +   880d ago
Not another exclusive lost.
insomnium2  +   880d ago
PS+ is all I've got to say about your 2007ish comment.
Alastor64  +   880d ago
Better then the maintenance times Sony does on the PS3 which usually take a whole day, not allowing you on the web.
YoungPlex  +   880d ago
Mine didn't take long at all considering the size, took around 20 minutes if that! Didn't really notice it because it was downloading in the background. As long as Nintendo allows for these updates to be downloadable in the background and I'm able to continue playing my game, I really could care less how long it takes. I was able to see how long it took because of my activity log. It said I was playing AC:III for twenty minutes, the same time I cancelled my download and resumed playing. The cool thing is that if you cancel your download it resumes it in the background.

FinalomegaS  +   880d ago
Bell fiber optic in most urban areas. DSL in other parts. The question is how far are we from the servers.

I got this done in under 30 min, with 2 pc being used and fiber tv being used.,
cherbhy  +   880d ago
FWIW, I just performed the update and it took thirty minutes.
joeyisback  +   880d ago
it goes by your internet speed for the one's who didn't notice took my 15 mins to download took my friend 1 hr
mydyingparadiselost  +   880d ago

FanMan  +   880d ago

stragomccloud  +   880d ago

urwifeminder  +   880d ago
Sony and nintendo are online noobs they are bound to have massive updates untill they get it right.
ALLWRONG  +   880d ago
Shouldn't people be used to updates on electronic devices by now?
MegaLagann  +   880d ago
Great, more updates! *Sarcasm*

To be honest, I don't see how this update improves anything. The load times still seem dreadfully long.

A lot of updates it seems like!
Nevers0ft  +   879d ago
It looks like they've improved the memory management. Exiting apps back to the Wii U Menu is faster, as are re-loads of the aforementioned apps. So I suspect it's keeping things in memory more for faster switching.
hivycox  +   879d ago
What the hell is wrong with these headlines ?!

Give me a break.. will you always write an entire article about any update about the wii u ?? well i guess you have no life...

Just stop bitching will ya -.-
DivineAssault  +   879d ago
at this rate, the 8GB model will have all its storage taken up by updates.. Better run out n buy a HDD if u have the white one
ChickeyCantor  +   879d ago
No it won't. Updates hardly add-in new featers. So they are usually just patches overriding the OS data.

It's not stacking up. After install the downloaded update package is removed.

ChickeyCantor  +   879d ago
It only took me between 5 to 10 minutes.
theEx1Le  +   879d ago
First thing I noticed was it now displays the store on the TV as well as the gamepad after the update.
Deku-Johnny  +   879d ago
>Website called 'gamingtruth'
>posts bullshit

The first update that supposedly took a few hours took 40 minutes for me and didn't brick anyone's console. I downloaded and installed this new update within 10 minutes. If it's taking hours to update you need to check with your ISP.
wiiulee  +   879d ago
lol haters...its a firmware it takes a moment to download..didnt the xbox360, ps3 and vita just had firmware updates not long ago...is nintendo's firmware the only one that is suppose to magically appear on your system....haters will hate but the wiiu is here to stay...
