Suprise suprise. It's definitely stale.

chanmasta4159d ago

Yes, the odd review out of many that praise it (and from personal experience, it surprised me with how fun and unique it is) must mean the series is "definitely stale".

@FriedGoat

Technically the same argument can be used for any repetitively designed franchise. Madden, Assassin's Creed, Angry Birds, just about any popular first person shooter franchise, etc.

Just because it's 'samey' doesn't mean it can't be fun.

jakmckratos4159d ago

Angry Birds doesn't require a $60 charge attached to a new venture. And that's a poor example seeing as they've changed the birds abilities twice now..each time shaking up the formula. Mario is still jump,run, throw...same environments, same hazards and from what Ive seen same boss fights.

@jakmckratos

Right and the new levels and power-ups in Mario do... what exactly? I don't recall seeing a flying squirrel costume in New Super Mario Bros. on the DS.

With Angry Birds it is still pull back, aim, let loose. Same formula with minor tweaks. Same difference there.

I'm getting a Wii U in two days and plan on getting it because I haven't played a side scrolling Mario game since the paper Mario on N64 so it will be fresh to me!

Recently started playing Super Mario Bros 3 via Emulator. World 8 still kicking my ass 26 years later.

Am I missing something? It looks exactly the same, just higher resolution… Is this sarcasm?

specialguest303d ago

Yes, you're not observant if you think it looks exactly the same. It immediately appeared different to me from the start. Mario's 3D model will always be the same, so not much difference there. However, the animation they've given the Super Mario Wonder makes it look more like a CGI Mario animation where as the New Mario Bros game looks more like typical video game animation movements

__SteakDeck__303d ago

@specialguest Yeah those animations are insane.

FinalFantasyFanatic303d ago

You really didn't notice the difference? It's really obvious, I was surprised when I first saw the trailer.

"Am I missing something?"

Your glasses maybe?

This Mario game looks great, getting a switch for this and Mario RPG. CANT WAIT, TITS JACKED.

Profchaos303d ago

Yeah I liked how much more emotion could be conveyed through the new style at first glance I didn't see much difference but then rewatching the trailer I'm seeing more and more animations that remind me of the Mario artwork from the manual of smb3

Outlawzz303d ago

I hated the new super Mario bros Style. This new one seems a lot more expressive and less generic. I hope it's a good game

shinoff2183303d ago

I prefer the 2d Mario's. Me and my girl have played them all together and mario galaxy , Mario odyssey. The 2nd player option is extremely eh
