John Vekinis:
Like many others, in the build up to the Wii U launch I was consumed by the hype. Many a review was read and trailer watched as I awaited getting my grubby mitts on the system. By far the game I had the most vested interest in was ZombiU, simply because it's the game I chose to pre-order well in advance as my launch game. Judging by reviews, it seems ZombiU ended up dividing opinions more than Marmite and I was pretty worried that I would be wasting my money on a mediocre launch game. But along came ONM's review, a noble score was dished out and I immediately felt better.
For example, I find Destructoid to be all over the map when it comes to reviews and I don't trust them, plain and simple. I swear, sometimes it seems to me they low-ball scores of popular games that everyone else is raving about simple to stir up negative sentiment for hits. It's dishonest, and I won't use them because of it.
graphics are bad,
animations are bad,
combat is dull and repetitive,
game is incredibly buggy.
no depth in the story
The positives:
scary survival setting
innovative ideas
This game had so much promise, and even though i prepared myself for disappointment I cannot believe how badly this game was made.Ubisioft rushed this game for wii u launch title. This game is Mediocre at best. Not bad, just mediocre. 5/10
I personally this is a great launch title.
i dont have a lot of money to spend on games, never have. neither do i like spending what money i have on games. so when i buy a game, i have to know with the most confidence as possible, that the game i bought is not total garbage.
i used to buy games magazines, a few each month lol so i have always been 'in the know' of what is considered a good game or not. the internet makes it easier to judge a game.
i can honestly say, i have almost never been disappointed with a game i purchased. the only game i ever returned was turok 2 on n64. within 10 mins i knew i had made a big mistake and returned it immediately lol
i know what is a good game and what isn't, and zombiu is not what i consider a good game. sure, i would like to play it, but i wouldn't buy it, and there is a massive difference. its just not my cup of tea.
i personally only buy AAA classics lol
To be fair, Zombie U is a cool game, but it underachieved. I like the ideas more than the execution....we all kept thinking 'why can't we do that, or go there, or use that'?
Wii U has double the ram of both 360/PS3 but U cannot see evidence of it yet...Nintendo will need to Wow us.
Also it has a similar play style to Dead Island (which I lost interest in after 1hr) both have a similar clunky control scheme and poor combat system.
We mostly agreed Left4Dead on 360 was a better Zombie game in SP/MP.
I'm looking forward to The Last of Us for my survivalist game.
I'm not convinced enough to purchase Wii U at present, but I'm keeping an eye on it.
Zombie games are so last decade anyways.....
