not sure this really means much for gaming. Its a desperate move for cash. The reality is if they tried to sell these big games this way all the time they would be dead already as a company.

The proceeds go to Child's Play and other charities

Not all of them. Buyers can choose the ratio of proceeds that go to Developers/Charity/Humble.

It's clearly a move to promote their library of newly released and upcoming games by offering their past games for cheap. For instance, you purchase this bundle and play the games on Steam. Company of Heroes 2 is coming out soon, so having played CoH bundle, you might be inclined to get CoH2. Metro 2033 and Darksiders - the same thing.

Reaching a wider audience is essential for THQ to grow and persevere in this industry.

It's not a desperate move for cash as Dlacy said. I read about this bundle days ago and I know how it works. Why not give people a chance to play the other games in a series before they play the sequel?
