Uncharted’s Nathan Drake: Hero or Villain? – Reader’s Feature

A reader examines the morality of Nathan Drake and asks whether the higher standards he’s held to is proof of how good a character he is.

Video games often have a hero or a villain. Nathan Drake from the popular Uncharted series is pitched as the hero of the piece, a likeable chap who’s witty, adventurous and has biometrics not too dissimilar to the average man. So, why is he so commonly referred to as a moral-less man intent on killing all those in his way? Journalists and gamers alike all seem to have referred to the fact that his moral compass is awry when it comes to his kill count.

He's saved the world quite a few times by killing those who would do harm to innocents. Overall he's an unintentional hero with ELena being his center of reason.

I like how the boss of Uncharted 2 actually pointed out how Drake is pretty much a mass murderer and no worse than he is. It's good that Naughty Dog are self aware enough to point these things out in the games.

Yes but thats like saying that when the USA invaded germany to stop the nazi's that we were just as bad as them because we had to kill people to do it. Killing in defense of innocents is not the same as killing for personal gain. There is a distict difference. then on top of that most of the killing done by nathan drake was in self preservation, its not like the bad guys are just going to let him stroll on in.

Hero ~ Why? Because that's the type of story it is. TloU will be more realistic in that sense
