If you missed the $199 PS Vita bundleS that Sony offered over the Black Friday weekend, you can still get a really great deal at AT&T. The unlikely source is offering the Playstation Vita 3G model for only $199 with a data plan.
Who all saw this coming?
I did... And They should give it away for free with a 2 year contract....
Its like saying Apple should give away their Iphone 4s for free with a 2 year contract. Or Samsung with the Galaxy S2/3 or Note. It's just not logical when the profit is low on the hardware. I would really like to see how this sells, now that AT&T will be selling them with a contract. I know they were getting training on them a few months back.
it should be cheaper than that
@Godchild: well, actually operators here give you top tier smartfones or consoles for "one euro". Of course you pay for them during the 24-month contract but you still get unlimited calls and a data plan. All in all, you pay one year for the phone, one year for services. I heard in US you pay for incoming text messages but it's really hard to believe such thing.
@Godchild1020 What do you think contracts are for? It's a system they use so you can pay for the phone and service while they also make a profit.... Why do you think they ask for ss#..... Most phones that mayor carriers have come free with a two year contract especially phones that retail below $300 usd. For This be possible it all depends on the price of these exclusive data plans for example $50 a month for unlmtd 3g data should cover it...
At the 2 comments above. This is not your standard contract plan. You can choose the 14.99 plan (least amount of profit) and go.about you business. There is also no Activation free, where the carrier makes the initial profit start. Also there is no voice or text attached to the plan. That is why I said the profit is low for the carrier and the platform holder to sell the phone for free with such plans. Also, most phones that sell for free are flip phones and not smartphones. Unless they been on the market for a set amount of time and a new phone in the same product line is introduced to clear old inventory. @Talisker, they do charge per text. Unless you have an unlimited plan. It's usually 10 or 15 cents per incoming and outgoing text.
My points still stands reguardless if the phones flips or smart.... If they can make a reasonable profit it is possible. It all comes down to contract and service price period.
Forget the 3G Vita, just buy the WiFi version and tether it to either your phone or a MiFi dongle. It's better to stay clear of contracts - they're evil!
