Levelling Out: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - All Ghillied Up

"Each day this week our writer Vaughn will be putting up an article about one particular level, place, moment, in a game that’s really captures the titles essence but because of this there could be spoilers ahead. It’s called Levelling Out, and for the final day he’s looking at Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

"Activision’s Call of Duty franchise is arguably the biggest game franchise around at the moment, and easily the biggest selling shooter of all time. Every publisher, especially EA, wants to create the next hit that dwarfs Infinity Ward and Treyarch’s creation. However, it wasn’t always the big selling top-dog it is now. In fact, the series only really took off when the World War II storyline was ditched in favour of a future conflict based around plausible forecasts." (Activision, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Culture, Infinity Ward, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

CoD 4 and MW2 were pushing limits, the two greatest CoD games( along with CoD 2 at its yime) made by the true IW, CoD has never been the same since they left

Agreed. I also liked WaW a lot. The last WWII CoD game. I'd actually like to seem them go back to WWII or even WWI at some point.

CoD 4 and MW2 are the best of the series. Its so sad Infinity Ward is not the same anymore. The best off them they all left :(

CoD 4 is the only one I'll play, I refuse to touch anything past it; before it I'll at least play to see what the hype was back when they were first released.

If they made another good one like 4 I "might" buy it used but damn Activision getting any of my $.

All ghillied up
Was the standout level in cod 4 and a level I went back to again and again, on veteran it was a good challenge as well. Especially the last bit, modern warfare 4 needs to do what modern warfare did, rejuvenate the fps genre.

I remember more scenes and moments in cod4 campaign, a game I played years ago than Black ops 2 campaign, a game I just beat a couple days ago.

A brilliant level. The whole game was pretty damn amazing. I love me some CoD. This is my 2nd fave CoD besides Black Ops1.

When I played this level for the first time in 2007, I never saw graphics that realistic on ANYTHING. I remember watching whoever the guy is that you're following running through the grass, leaning around corners, and blending into a tree trunk with his ghillie suit...that was the pinnacle of motion-capture technology. I couldn't tell it apart from a real person. The lighting on that level was amazing, too. It was just grimy and gloomy, yet real. The particle effects of all the dust, especially inside that little church, were amazing. If the grass and the sky moved, it would have been technically perfect.

I hope that COD 4 gets remade next gen with everything cranked up to max, in 1080p, with full dynamic lighting, clouds, etc etc...as I would absolutely love to play through this again with it being as good as it possibly can.

They might as well stop with "all Ghillied UP". After that, nothing measure up. Best level ever in any game I played. Assault on the control room(Halo) ranks 2nd IMO.
