It's the extent to which Nintendo put their efforts into the game pad that will make the huge difference whenever MS and Sony tack on a similar type of controller on their next-gen consoles. Due to cost, and the consumer need to keep cost low, you either go the Nintendo route, or you put all of your eggs into the 'raw power' basket it appears. Then hope people buy your add on, and hope people develop around your add on, etc.

We've reached a point in gaming as a whole where a lot of serious gamers would rather put a bit of money into a solid gaming PC than spend $400+ on a console. So I doubt that the power of the next consoles will be all that impressive. I'm VERY interested in what Sony and MS will do 'gimmick' wise with their new machines. It would be beyond awesome if with all 3 new machines, you could play under completely different and innovative concepts.

That would be something that demands purchase of all 3 again for me personally. As it stands now, for me it's Wii U, then whichever of the other two that seems most promising. I'm hoping for some wow factor from both of them so I can personally justify taking the plunge.
