Ps3 was the only system the had a Year-over-year gain this black friday.
Xbox360 sold 750,000 (still impressive) DURING the week of black friday. Ps3 sold 525,000 and Wii U sold 400,000. What people didn't know is that launch week for the Wii U, US was only had 400k allocated (set aside). So it makes sense that it only sold that much given it's limited supply.

Those numbers you're posting are from last year. Xbox360 didn't not see a Year-over-Year gain. you provide one source that's says 900k, I provide three sources saying 750k and one source saying your numbers are from last year.

Microsoft officially own their home base (USA). They get the lion share of their sales here as compared the other regions where Sony PS3 dominates. So with their second generation consoles they know own home base similar to how Nintendo this generation own the Japan market.

Good job Microsoft. The question now is can Xbox720 give them the edge to own the european regions. Japan is still a market space I do not see Microsoft having much success in.

No worries, those numbers are shipped, and they did the same mistake with MS when they announced they had passed 70M at the end of september, yet at october 10, VGC still showed 360 sales at 69M.

i disagree... if they don't update their numbers with shipped data how can the 360 numbers be like that? follow me, microsoft announced 750k 360 sold on the black friday and vgchartz has them at 807k for the week. 57k sold during the rest of the week seams logic considering that i don't think that a lot of people bought it out from the discounts of the black friday.
sony reported 525k ps3 sold on that single day and that all the discounted bundles were soldout in few hours, how can be the numbers of an entire week be even lower than a single day report? in conclusion, 360 data seams on par with the microsoft report the ps3 ones not. i call it common sense. ;)

It's vgchartz. They're terribly inaccurate sales predictions and not any actual market data. They undershoot the Vita by 40K, and the PS3 by over 100K. They overshot the Xbox by about 60K (not positive on this, can't remember the number MS gave out, but wasn't that high).

For those that want to disagree, that's from the respective companies own reports on their weekend sales.

has technically passed Microsoft as of last quarter, VGCHartz refuses to recognize them. As of September 30th, 2012 xbox360 sits at 70 million, PS3 sits at 70.2 million. Given that Cyber Monday deals take place online, I bet those numbers are going to huge for ps3 in Europe.

I see that VGChartz have adjusted their numbers up for the PS3 and Vita but for some reason they're both shy of the actual sales figures. Why are they always so reluctant to do that this time of year? They're 80,000 out with the PS3 and 25,000 out with the Vita.

And this is why the PS3 will never outsell the 360. It happens every year like clockwork. For the first 3/4 of the year, the PS3 outsells the 360 every week by small - moderate amounts. Everyone says the PS3 is about to pass the 360. Then the holiday season comes and the 360 wipes away the PS3's yearly lead in just a few weeks of amazing sales and they end up just about tied every year, so the gap has stayed between 2 - 3 million for years now. Sony has done too little, too late and the PS3 will never catch up before new consoles release.

Sorry but that's not the way it is: For 46 weeks of the year the PS3 outsells the 360 by around 40,000 to 60,000 units a week (occasionally more when a big game arrives), but for arguments sake, lets average that out to 50,000 a week. The 360 outsells the PS3 by around 500,000 to 800,000 for the last 6 weeks of the year. Do the maths.

idk this year MS may not have that 6 week advantage. Once the xmas sales come around worldwide this year I don't think the 360 is out selling the ps3 by such a huge margin at all. Europe and Japan always greatly favor Sony. And with Sony having done so well and withing range of the 360 in the US Black Friday week I don't see MS pulling the 500,000 to 800,000 lead out of the ass this time around. I think Black friday week is it for MS.

Even using the official figures, the 360 outsold the PS3 this week by over 150,000 units and it also outsold it two weeks previous by about 100,000 each week, so I reckon the 360 WILL sell around 500,000 more consoles this Christmas (perhaps not 800,000 though).

One thing is for sure though, the PS3 will NOT be 3.3 million behind this Christmas, it'll be around 2 million. By March, that will have been reduced to 1.5 million at least and then the big games hit like TLOU, GOWA and Beyond. Some nice spikes there.

Both consoles will be neck and neck by May/June.

I believe it's because of 360s' 1 year lead.
The PS3 'may' never catch up. As each year pass, MS can offer the 360s for bundles & cheaper than the previous year, also for less than the PS3.
Soon, the next gen will come, so focus will go on to the new consoles. At this point is when Sony will catch up with the PS3, because Sony plans to continue support for it, while MS will most likely halt their support for the 360.
If the PS3 continues to sell after the next MS console, THEN Sony will get the lead (possibly within 2 years after the next MS console).

VGChartz keeps putting the PS3 closer to the 360, then mysteriously...the 360 pulls ahead a few months later. At one point, the PS3 was within 2 million of the 360.

As long as Nintendo has their first party line up; Mario, Pokemon, Metroid and Donkey Kong to name a few, they will be fine and keep the causal market. It's all about getting the Hardcore and I think Sony will be gaining some while Microsoft is losing and Nintendo has open arms for them.

I love when people say Nintendo is not "hardcore" ok so Mario,Zelda and Metroid are not hardcore (back in the day they were) but they dont choose all the games to release on the system, publishers do... many companies saw the Wii sell better then PS3 or 360 so they released the casual games.. Nintendo did release Xenoblade and the Last Story (maybe they not "hardcore" and both PS3 and 360 have casual games and more and more every year) blame publishers not manufacturers for the casual games and Wii did get COD (it wasnt great and i did get my fix on the 360)... plus WiiU is getting Bayonetta 2 (thank you Nintendo but a nude woman is not hardcore) with third party publishers onboard more "hardcore" games will get released... Nintendo has a longer histroy then Sony or Microsoft so people get bored with IPs that are in their 20s... when Modern Warfare 15 or Uncharted 8 comes out people will say it the same as before or at that time they might not be "hardcore" anymore... times change will Sony and Microsoft (only time will tell)
