Free Radical: Battlefront 3 Was 99 Percent Finished
NowGamer: Battlefront III was '99% finished' according to Free Radical Design co-founder Steve Ellis, who says the project was shut down due to 'financial reasons'.
(Industry, Star Wars: Battlefront III)
This just drives the knife in deeper and gives it a good twist. I spent 3 years following the secret development and subsequent death of what could have been the best competitive third person shooter of this gen. I like Starhawk and some other games, but it's just not the same as Star Wars... I have an attachment with the characters, environments and lore of the Star Wars galaxy like just about everyone from that generation.

I knew it was Darrell Rodriguez's fault. I hate the ___ __ _ _____!!! He wanted to go back to the roots of LA and rework the Monkey Island games (which is fine... they were great games) and green light games like Lucidity. I have nothing against either of those games, but Star Wars Battlefront was the best selling game for LA, before The Force Unleashed, and to abandon it was stupid.
I know Free Radical would have made a great game, because they had something to prove after the critical reception to Haze. I finally got to where I haven't seen the leaked footage in some months now, and Battlefront 3 was just a distant memory... now I'm even more pissed at Rodriguez. Oh well, at least he's gone, and Star Wars 1313 has potential.
The Battlefront series was truly great, I feel like a current gen adaptation would have fixed a lot of the AI and balance issues and made it a very competitive and unique game in a rather repetitive space. The timesplitters series, however, is mostly all about nostalgia. I'm glad it will live on in it's glory, I don't think a fourth installment would add anything to the series.
unless it was a argument about copyrights no publisher is gonna shelve a game that was 99% done. They are gonna try an make back some of the lost investment even if they gotta pull the game an give it to another team.
An it wasnt creative direction cause the publisher has people onsite for a project like this as well as lucasarts people. Na, I gotta call bs on the 99% comment.
The game must have been poor. The only reason not to finish the final 1% is because they must have done a bad job and the fans were not going to like the game. If that is the case then I say good. There are too many Star Wars games that just poop on the name.
They could of least found someone to do the last 1% and finish it off...
Honestly...this has ticked me off completely
I'm afraid of it actualy being released now because I'm scared COD is going to rub off on the multiplayer like every other online game out there and it will end up being crap.
@TimmyShire and Jinkies I think the marketing aspect and that 1% was just too much to spend for low return. Marketing makes up a big part of the budget.
My exact feelings, i want it to come out but at this point i know it would be bad. It wont be anything like 1 or 2 and will have so much taken from COD it would be ridiculous. I rather have no battlefront than battlefront COD edition. I honestly now hope for an HD collection and hopefully they wont touch a single element from the games.
Doubt it. SWBF3 was long overdue and completing it now would be a waste of time seeing as though the game was developed for last gen systems. They are better off remaking the entire game.
There's gotta be more than that. You can't shut something down that's 1% away from being able to make tons of money since there was tons of money that was put into it in the first place. That's just stupid.
If it was really 99% done it would have been released UNLESS..it was 99% crap. I am sorry I don't buy the it was 99% done. 99% done means a publisher just pushes it out as is to make back its dev costs as a game like that would sell bunches even if it wasn't great.
I don't buy it. If a game is 99% done, then by that point it's already been revealed and has a marketing campaign. Imagine if tomorrow Square Enix said that the next Deus Ex game is 99% done and it will release next month.

Please fire the morons that held up this project and murdered Free Radical.
