Why We Love: Metroid

It is hard to imagine modern gaming without Metroid. It's importance resonates in today’s video gaming culture and without a doubt in generations to come. There are a myriad or reasons why the franchise is so greatly revered; the explosive action, the genre-defining landscapes, the droning music that reverberates through the player. Yup Metroid started the Sci-Fi open world exploration game.

Zelda started the fantasy open world exploration game.

Love it.

What is great about Zelda is that it is an RPG with no grinding , character progress comes from completing quests and finding secrets , unfortunately most RPGs chose grinding to extend the time, the closets game to the Zelda formula is Batman Arkham City.

Don't forget Samus was also the first female protagonist in video games. So this series pioneered a lot. :)

I love the atmosphere, the music, art-direction and the sense of discovery these games make you feel when you go from one place to the other. Between all the Nintendo games Metroid is the one that has the potential to evolve beyond any other Nintendo franchise.

I love
Metroid because of the sense of isolation, growth and power. Also having to be clever in how you take out enemies/bosses.

Between the NES/SNES Metroids & Primes, Metroid is an amazing series that exemplifies game design...we won't talk about Other M...

The atmosphere can`t be compared to other games. It`s in it`s own league. Why is Japanese developers a million gazillion times better at creating atmosphere than western? Just look at this generations Demon`s Soul`s compared to mass effect and killzone for example. It is not comparable. Demon`s Soul`s feels alive while the other games feels clunky and hollow and flat.
