From stellar sequels to innovative indie titles, this year has seen the release of some truly stunning games. With 2013 now just around the corner, FMV Magazine presents its Top Five Games of 2012...
(Culture, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
Journey and Borderlands 2 have to be at the top of my list. I've also been enjoying Assassin's Creed III lately, but I haven't had time to get all the way through it yet.
I'm going to buy Far Cry 3 on PC. That may be my last purchase of the year. It looks fantastic at the highest settings on PC, which is just where I plan on taking it.
I've got so many games back-logged I don't even know which ones to start with. Any suggestions? KZ3, Dead Space 2, Yakuza 4 & Dead Souls, Deus Ex, Sleeping Dogs, Dishonored, Dark Souls, Catherine..... etc.... These are only the ones I can remember off the top of my head. Some sort of an order I can work down would be appreciated for those who have played these games plz. PS. These games were all on sale when I bought them (at least 50% off)...... So no, I'm not rich. Some deals are just too good to pass up. LOL
Journey is overrated. I can understand why some people would put it as their GOTY, but you really need to stop with all that "This is an experience, not a game" crap. It's a VIDEO GAME, whatever angle you look at it. Dismissing it as a game is just pretentious. And in video games, gameplay should always be the first priority, not pretty graphics.
I don't hate the game itself, but walking around straight for two hours isn't really my type of game.
People like you honestly make me appreciate Journey even more. It's not a game for everybody. Doubt any close minded individual would find this game appealing. Gaming in general is similar to movies and books. Each tries to create an experience like no other while engaging the individual to the narrative. You have to look pass the obvious which is the lack of game play but there is much more that meets the eye. The visuals, the music, everything is done in a certain way to engage the individual into the game. This game is art that evokes a lot of emotions through the play through and that's why people enjoy it. It's beautiful when a GAME is able to accomplish that. And that's why to many, including myself holds the crown for GOTY 2012.
Appreciate it all you want, but it still isn't much of a game if it lacks gameplay. If narrative, music and visuals is the hook, then it might as well be a movie.
Journey & DearEsther are interesting experiments, but far from GOTY.
"It's not a game for everybody" ... "close minded" ... "look past the obvious lack of gameplay" ... "game is art" ... "engage" ... "emotions" ... "beautiful"
@Fatoldman There are a lot of factors that built up a game It's not only game play. A game can have good game play but if everything else isn't good then the game falls apart. Everything in journey is created in a simple way to engage the player into the narrative.
It's certainly not for everybody. Although I think it's a shame you think games should't be experiences, as I think that's the way the industry will move forward.
Journey is an amazing experience, and just because the gameplay isn't sophisticated, doesn't mean it's bad. It works, and fits with the visuals and narrative. It is the best game I have played this year. The Walking Dead is a close second, which is another game that doesn't rely on gameplay to make it good.
Edit: When was the last time I commented on something inane you said?
That long, huh?
And I don't have to try at all to slam Journey, it's easy!
dont pay attention and reply to morons buddy.
In other words, while it may not be the *best*, if you haven't experienced it.....well.....
