The First Person Shooter – I’m Bored Now

A large gun, and an area full of people in front of me. In any other genre, there may be some hope of conversation, perhaps a spot of exploring, even. But no, this is a first-person-shooter and all must die.

It’s all getting very boring indeed. (Culture)

I don't ever seem to get tired of third person action adventure games. FPS gets boring fast.

As CoD and Halo are the only FPSs out there or are the only ones that matter and ignoring every other game that encompasses the entire genre?

The series mentioned are not the genre, they are part of the genre but please, please stop equating FPS genre to only CoD, etc

What about Far Cry 3 (preordered today)? Open world, good story, tactical freedom?
What about Skyrim in first person? Portal and Bioshock? What about Metro 2033 and Fallout? Rainbow Six and Brothers in Arms? Operation Flashpoint?

It's just something the developers are doing now. If you go back and play any of the old fps games, they're so much funner for some reason.

It's not all bad though. Planetside 2 is one of the funnest games I've played in a while and Far Cry 3 is amazing.

the multiplayer of today is really amazing and all BUT please we need single player like games of old, like Perfect dark, GE007, Timesplitters, Half Life, Doom, quake etc...

Resistance 3 and Dishonored do a goodjob at single player fps wasnt bored once cant say the same for other fp.

You talk about the genre being stale, but you only provide examples from Halo and CoD?

You didn't enjoy Halo as you felt the difficulty was to hard?

You didn't like Halo because you couldn't go off exploring?

Nobody expects to in Halo. You knew what you were getting yourself in for. 343 weren't all of a sudden going to turn the next Halo installment into and adventure/RPG.

Just because it doesn't, doesn't mean the entire FPS genre is generic and stale.

Look at Dishonored. Multiple paths, choices. You didn't even need to kill anyone.

Far Cry. Open world where you COULD go exploring, taking things at you're own pace.

BioShock. Certainly one of the best narrative offerings, even after all these years.

Most FPS games nowadays have a unique hook or mechanic that differentiates themselves from others.

Just sounds like to me you didn't enjoy Halo.

You shouldn't be condemning the entire genre over one game.

I'm bored of all First Person Shooters as well. I don't even like them anymore. Not even for multiplayer. They're all the same. No style.

i prefer fighters and action adventure games.battalfield is tartin to bore me halo 4 is like a last gen fps that makes me fall asleep it feels so simple. cod bores me so much the minute i slide the disc in i take it out 5 seconds later.

I feel like something is missing and it is a good final fantasy. I need ff10 remake were is it dammit.

I concede that I often feel like this about the FPS genre, but two games have shown me the light: Dishonored and Far Cry 3. Both great FPS titles in their own unique ways.
