A new miniature-sized version of the existing Wii console is being released exclusively in Canada on December 7th, Nintendo has confirmed. The question is: should you buy it? NintendoStar weighs up the pros and cons.
(Nintendo, Wii)
I think it looks pretty damn cool. It's a perfect device for parents that just want a plug and play device for their kids. I think the lack of wi-fi is a bit of an oversight as the parents I know all rely on their Wii's for Netflix for their families, but it's not like those folks can't just spend an extra $30-$50 and get a full featured Wii with Super Mario Bros bundled in.
Can't say it is a bad 100 dollar purchase. It would've been much more worth the money if it had online capabilities, which was a major feature for the Wii. The Wii couldn't get much worse from this point on though. First goes the GameCube backward compatibility now online features too. Don't think they can remove the disk drive, otherwise no game would work...
It isn't priced much lower than the old Wii which is bundled with 2 games. For the impulse buyer it will seem like a sweet deal, but personally I don't see this offering better value than the current Wii at $130 with both Wii Sports games as well as wifi.
no virtual console, no wii-ware..... and for only 30 bucks less than its big brother Wii....
I see no value in a wii mini over a wii.
