Star Wars: The Old Republic Re-Review | EuroGamer

EuroGamer: "Time hasn't been kind to The Old Republic. It certainly doesn't feel like a game that came out last Christmas, even if at launch its technology and largely reskinned Warcraft mechanics were more a base for BioWare to flex its narrative muscles with than a big leap forward for massively multiplayer games. Now, not even a year later, with the game recently turned free-to-play, going back to explore its worlds feels like archeology. Sometimes palaeontology. And the story that BioWare hoped to tell is unlikely to have a happy ending." (PC, Star Wars:The Old Republic) 4/10

I think it's a great idea to re-review games. Especially MMO's considering longevity is important

Anyway, yeah, bring on Knights of the old republic 3!

I will politely disagree with this review. SWtOR is not a great MMO, but it is a good one. It focuses on narrative over much else, and many gamers are looking for that sort of thing. Heck, it's why I play RPGs to begin with. It has also come a long way from last year. I admit that they need to go further, but with what they have done as far as content, it takes time. They didn't take the easy way out like most MMOs out there that focus on quick and easily skipped dialogue and that decision has led them to a harder growth over others. But, it's still great to see such a focus on narrative in an MMO, which is where many MMOs got their start to begin with but then followed much like the FPSes to catering to the desires of PvP and raiding only and leaving the rest behind.

One item of note that I found to be a sign of a weird review: "The trouble with being a sniper is that your combat screenshots either look bland or like a sci-fi version of The Naked Gun."

Really? You're nitpicking how your screenshots come out?

I can't help but think there's GW2 influence when it comes to this review. Not to say that influence is unfair bias, mind you. I've seen and heard how that title reinvents a few integral MMO tropes of olde, and having MMO veterans expect that with a budget as SWTOR is a fair expectation.

Now with the F2P model, anyone can scour the galaxy within a fleshed-out storyline, though sometimes banal, that feels unique to them. I can't really see how reinventions like that can possibly translate to you finding it to be a sub-par MMO.

I just picked up kotor 2 in the steam sale. Kotor 1 is my favorite game of all time. Wish they had just made a third. Without making you become a jedi.

The review is nothing more than some more Bioware hate. I mean seriously, it's sad that reviewers can't remove their emotions for EA and Bioware from a review score. Whatever, I don't trust reviewers anyways.

I want the real KOTOR3

The game isn't as bad has these review sites make it out to be. Its free to play now so why not just try it out?

Just imagine how this would have turned out if they stuck to release a single player focused KOTOR. I can guarantee they would have cashed in. Instead some money whore executive got the bright idea to make this an MMO...with a single player narrative.

EA will not even break even on this game. Morons.

Actually, the decision to go with an MMO was done by LucasArts.
