Just Add Water CEO: No Stranger’s Wrath HD for 360 “is bemusing”
Just Add Water CEO Stewart Gilray is frustrated that Microsoft never approved Stranger’s Wrath HD for 360, saying the reasons given were “bemusing”, but he doesn’t hold any grudges, and new game New ‘N Tasty will be coming to the console.
(Just Add Water, Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath HD, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
Isn't there some stupid Xbox Live policy which forbids the release of games on the console if those games came out on a platform other than the 360 first?
If true than that's probably the reason why Oddworld isn't on Xbox Live.
This part of the article is most telling for those still questioning the development of Final Fantasy 13.
Qoute: "Titles for Xbox 360 must ship at least simultaneously with other video game platform, and must have at least feature and content parity on-disc with the other video game platform versions in all regions where the title is available. If these conditions are not met, Microsoft reserves the right to not allow the content to be released on Xbox 360."
So yeah Microsoft this gen are basically what Sony did during the PS2 reign. The problem is that the PS2 sold 150+ million units to justify that policy, however Microsoft do not have that kind of sales to justify that policy.

Curious that this didn't hamper assassins creed for example ;) poor Oddworld.
@mac_sparrow, in AC3's case I am guessing that DLC for the PS3 preorder is planned to come to the 360 version at some point as paid dlc so it made it via a loop hole in the guidelines.
@izumo_lee "Carmack notes that Sony demands that games coming out on their platform after they've already been released on other platforms must have significant bonus content" http://www.1up.com/news/qua...
Sony have the exact same policy (possibly Nintendo too). This has been known for years.
Note the "after they've already been released on other platforms"
Basically Sony wants incentive for consumers to buy the title again if it is already released. The thing with Microsoft's TRC is that even before the game is released the title must meet specific standards for Microsoft or they have the right not to allow that game on their platform. Very different to having something already released with extras.
So what would you think is more reasonable...
A game that might not be on your platform if specific requirements aren't met? or A game released a few months after but has extras to justify another purchase?
Like i said it is basically like what happened with the PS2. Not saying it is wrong or not but although impressive the 70+ million sales is a far cry from the numbers the PS2 had to use that TRC.
@izumo_lee I think you misread the quote or you do not know the situation regarding Quake Wars' (which was planned as a simultaneous release). The game was heavily delayed on the 360 (even though it was ready for release) because of the PS3 version (which was having development issues).
Carmack wanted to release the 360 version and then release the PS3 version when it was ready but Sony's policy required extra exclusive content if that were the case. Carmack was not willing to add extra content to the PS3 version so the 360 version was delayed until the PS3 version was ready for release.
Sony and MS policies regarding retail games are exactly the same. Do a little research.
That MS policy is for arcade titles not full retail. Loads of games have had extra features on ps3.
The reason why oddworld didn't come out on 360 is because MS has a file size limit on downloadable arcade titles. I believe its 2gb but at the time i think it was lower. MS also has a similar policy for patch sizes.
Yeah i remember this, just MS being there petty self.. alot of articles claimed at the time of this, that MS were butthurt that sony got the game first when it was originally an xbox 1 exclusive when it first released...
" After that rebuttal, Just Add Water tried again six months later, but were given three new reasons, all of which Gilray believed could be worked around. “’1. We want simultaneous release with PS3.’ Well, we’ve been talking to them for 15 months: you had a perfect chance to get us on your platform, ’2. Get a minimum Metacritic score of 80.’ Xbox was 88 and PS3 was 83 [At that point.], ’3. Sell 1 million units at retail.’ Which I’ve since found out isn’t the case for Games on Demand anymore."
To be honest this is the first time I find out about the metacritic score of 80 rule, many great games might get shafted cause of it.
What is absolutely ridiculous about those last 2 rules is that they rely purely on chance. You can make an amazing game that some reviewers just don't like and it will affect the score. Plus, you can't control how many people will buy your game. Those rules are petty and I can't believe any company could ever justify using them in any way.
All Oddworld games from here out will be downloadable only, on Vita and PSN. Oddworld Abe HD will be on XBLA most likely and also Steam and hopefully Mac they said. The future of Oddworld is digital and OI told us that if we as a community support their games, they will continue to make more. It is about revenue. They don't care about getting rich, they care about making games and they are going in the hole to make their current games in hopes for the support.
Xbox owners ignored it in the 1st place along with other awesome titles exclusive to the platform, like Riddick & a few others.
So, it is fitting that the Playstation crowd get this once PS exclusive developers games back, as Oddworld Inhabants were made on Sony's PS1 console with there awesome Abe titles.
It is a godsend that Xbox owners were too busy with Halo to have given Riddick the attention it deserved to, as otherwise if they had of sold masses of copies, then Starbreeze may have stayed exclusive, meaning PS owners would have once again missed Riddick & also missed the awesome Syndicate & The Darkness.
If true than that's probably the reason why Oddworld isn't on Xbox Live.
Motorola RAZR i
If the rule leaves MS with a smaller catalog of good titles I don't see why they'd rigorously enforce it. :/

Or maybe AC3 is such a big title that they didn't want to pass it up, bending their own rules.
Strangers HD is easy to pass up.
AC3 not appearing on your console would be foolish.

Was kind of my point, I guess n4g isn't the place to suggest so much as state things.

It's not listed in the brackets showing the relevant systems above, so I hope it's still coming, as I'd prefer to play this one on the go.
