Atari Co-Founder ‘Baffled’ by Wii U

Jayden Williams at Aussie-Gamer.com writes: In a weekend feature for the New York Times, Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell has voiced his opinion regarding Nintendo’s latest home console, Wii U.
“I actually am baffled by it,” he sad point blank, before moving on to say the console won’t be a success at all for Nintendo. (Nolan Bushnell, Wii U)

People take video games seriously? I can see that working for someone looking for a job in the games industry... but for gaming? No thanks, I'll stick to just having fun.

Its not that serious man. Dust the doritos off your manboobs and get some fresh air.

Nolan Bushnell...while he certainly made great contributions (not just the Atari. He also started Chuck E Cheese lol!) to the world of entertainment, but his actions were also responsible for the Console Crash in the '80s.

He's old and burnt out. Of course he doesn't understand it.

lol "Atrai"
Don't mind me, I'm just sitting here waiting for this submission to get approved so I can laugh with everyone else at the obvious typo. Only needs 4 more approvals. Hmmm, maybe I'll play some Atrai 2600 games while I wait.
HebrewHammer  +   662d ago
What's an Atrai?

Who is this Atrai?

Atari Bigby?
g-nome  +   662d ago
Me too ... how can real gamers possibly take it seriously when it struggles to do COD at even 50 fps.
chukamachine  +   662d ago
Why bother braking the code, rofl.

Some of the best early games were made by Atari.

Pacman.
Gauntlet
Paperboy
Super Sprint

I loved those back in the day.

As for the Wii u.

40million max
DA_SHREDDER  +   662d ago
40 million max? You don't get it do you? Nintendo in HD is with a tab controller is all they need to hit another 100 mil sold. And that's only with them depending on their first party titles. Of course games aren't gonna gonna run better than ps3 third party titles for now, it just launched and the OS isn't even optimized for it's basic functions yet. Give it till summer next year. Zelda and metroid and Mario , whether it be kart or a 3D game, is gonna be all the system needs to sell in record numbers for another few years.

The fact it already has black ops 2 shows it already has almost all the third party support that most gamers want.

Guy said "braking the code". That should tell you all you need to know about him.
ronin4life  +   662d ago
Ok, I KNOW Pacman was NOT made by Atari...
jmc8888  +   662d ago
Not Atari, licensed to run on Atari's platform.
rainslacker  +   661d ago
Pac-Man was actually made by Namco. Bushnell also left atari before most of those other games came out, sometime in the late 70's. Also Pac-Man on the 2600 was considered the worst version of the game available.

Just look at him in that picture... biding his time...
*Nolan shakes his fist* "YOU'VE WON THIS TIME NINTENDOOOO!"

Atari stole their original ideas. Of course later they had some good programmer's come on board, but of course then they sold out to wall street and had lots of coke filled parties.

So no, the guy that stole the ideas from the creator of the Odyssey and Odyssey 2, and had talented programmers around him create the games, then rebel....which gave us Activision (when it was REALLY GOOD), then lost to Nintendo, naw I don't know why we'd listen to him.

Must be having a big coke flashback involving one of the Chucky Cheese's animatronics. (they owned the franchise)

I don't understand why people think app games will ever take over real games. Every since Apple launched the app store a few people have had this idea that it'd kill console gaming. Yeah I like to play a game of Angry Birds on my phone while I'm on a bus as much as the next guy but when you're at home who would rather sit on their phone playing an app that gets boring after half an hour instead of having a big session on your PS3/360/Wii U on a game that you only turn off because you're dying of sleep deprivation?
rainslacker  +   661d ago
It's the same mentality that goes into wanting a competing system to ones preferred one to die a horrible death. Apps/console/PC games have their place in the market, and as time goes by they'll cross paths on several occasions only to make their own way again.
