Steam breaks 6 million concurrent users.
Mainly cause of Dota 2. :D And the discounts/sales.
A great service , hope W8 dosn't screw them, is it viable for them to make a dedicated Steam OS that loads on startup?
It probably would not be hard since they now have steam running on Linux. They are probably planning to just have a linux distro dedicated to just running steam, which could eventually be used for the rumoured (I think?) Steam Console.
The problem is 9 out of 10 games on PC use DirectX to run. DirectX is a Microsoft Library so you need Windows to use it. There is some DirectX emulation under Linux but it's never been all that great.
There isn't anything I dislike more than that three letter word used online. Grow up.
It won't happen. the language is dying more and more everyday. Blame lazy parents and getting brain deficient kids cellphones.
Language is not something you make up and everyone has to go the route which has been laid down before them. Language is evolving with the people speaking it - you probably should grow up and finally realize that you are not the center of the world.
@HenryFord, tell that to their teachers when they are getting marked down for not knowing how to form a coherent sentence. Sorry, I meant #[email protected]
Steam is growing by leaps and bounds. I think it was less than a year ago when they hit 5 million concurrent users online at one time.
A mere year ago it was 4 million users now 6 million?! Oh sorry I was sitting here thinking PC gaming was dying because of all these "brilliantly written" articles on N4G..
That "PC gaming is dying" was just hyperbole to get hits. Anyone who thinks a superior gaming platform which is constantly having amazing deals on games and is cheaper in the long run is dying doesn't know what they're talking about.
I was finally getting my games in order after the Steam Summer Sale. Finishing off the the games one by one...then, Steam's Autumn Sale appeared. Just when I thought the backlog was going to disappear, Steam dumped more discounts and bundles on me.
oh shit pc gaming is dying lolololo also dota 2 is in "beta" so not every1 has it
Hows Steam on Linux, I was thinking of giving it a chance if it came to it 100% but can someone at least speak from personal experience on it?
I remember a few years back when everyone used to HATE this program with a passion. Now it's something no self-respecting PC Gamer should be without. Just curious though; I thought Steam had surmounted 6 million users yonks ago.
Concurrent, as in, there was 6 million people either playing a game, have it running in background, or looking at the store at one time. I'm sure they had 6 million accounts long ago, yes.
Well I was on Steam yesterday buying game for the computer I built on Saturday. It isn't top of the line, but it runs games great. ASRock Z77 Extreme4 MB 3rd Gen i5 3570k quad core @3.4Ghz 8Ghz RAM Geforce GTX 660 with 2GB RAM It's not the top of the line but it's a huge upgrade over my old Core Duo with an 8800GT video card. Microcenter had the i5 for $170, $20 cheaper than Amazon's "lightning" deal! I was mainly a PC gamer in the early days of PS2 and Xbox then have been a console gamer since. My old PC ran Minecraft with a 128 texture pack at about 70FPS, my new one gets 170-230FPS. Everything loads almost instantly and there's no lag when I look over a mountain and the scenery is loaded. I bought Metro 2033 and it runs really nice. My monitor doesn't support ultra high resolutions however, but everything looks amazing none-the-less
Should say 8GB RAM :) oh and it's 1600.
