30 days of Dreamcast – Part 1

Ok, so I wanted to keep a record of my idea to play nothing but Dreamcast for the next 30 days.

I guess the idea came to me because we are coming to the ‘silly season’ in terms of video game releases. Traditionally the video game release calendar starts to pick up the pace in September and then it’s pretty full on to the lead up to Christmas. The big hitters like Black Ops 2, Doom 3, (that will annoy Dits) Medal of Honour: Warfighter, Dishonoured, X-Com and Halo 4 have been, or are due for release and would normally be on my radar. I thought it would be a good challenge to see if I could play a retro console and not be tempted by the new releases. That and my wife said she would cut my nuts off if I bought any more new games. So it started by telling the Same Coin guys about the idea and they got to decide what console I play on. It could have been very different as I own most of the retro consoles. I could have had a month of Game Gear. This wouldn’t have been a bad thing except I’d probably have severe eye strain at the end of the month. If I survive the 30 days and decide to do it again, I’ll let the listeners decide what console I spend a month revisiting. Who knows, I may not want to go back to my shiny PC or other consoles as the Dreamcast may be all I need? (Crazy Taxi, Culture, Dreamcast, Retro, Sega, Shenmue)
