Editorial: PlayStation vs. Xbox: Gaming's Greatest Rivalry?

Rivalries are fun. What do you think has been this industry's most defining rivalry? Is it Sony vs. Microsoft or Nintendo vs. Sega in the old days? (Culture)

This gen yes. Last gen no. Nintendo's approach to gaming this gen has differentiated them from their competitors in a big way. For core gaming, I've stuck to PS3 and Xbox, mainly PS3, they are the most similar products to me in who they attract, although the xbox seems to attract more casuals.

First big one I remember was Nintendo vs. Sega but it wasn't over the top like how fans behave now

This generation is about hate, something we didnt have before. Its always been a civil rivalry between consoles and PC.

This generation its worse than ever. Systems used to live together not wantbto kill each other. Its the bloggers, the timed DLC, the media.

Ths down fall of it all launched with the Xbox 360. MS has made games about trying to belittle the competition, not about growing the industry and it's making this console vs console war a nightmare.

It bothers me why people care about rivalries. They're ONLY videogames; they're supposed to entertain you. Sony and Microsoft are corporations that care very little about you and ultimately solely about profits but go on ahead and keep on running around waving their banners with pride.

Just enjoy your games. The more close-minded you are about platforms the more videogaming experiences you'll miss.

Super Nintendo vs Sega Genesis was a great rivalry from what I know.

Back then
I bought both consoles, and I own both consoles today. Being a fan of one system doesn't make any sense to me, your missing out on to many good games owning just one.

I am not going to lie and just putting it out there that I have been a supporter of Sony since thier first console.

360 has never been my console of choice and have only had my 360 since last year.

I do find with the Internet in this era the rivalry has sunk to a new low of being childish. Sega vs Nintendo back in the day was not as entertaining as this because of the lack of Internet buzz.
I feel people perceive this to be the greater rivalry because of the Internet and nothing more.

While I prefere the ps3 and I think it is the better choice that doesn't mean the Xbox is rubbish in fact I am enjoying there exclusives from this gen but am not paying for online.
