Wii U Review: Has the Next Generation Finally Arrived? | Geek Revolt

GR's DeShaun Zollicoffer writes:

The Wii U is here and reactions are mixed. Some are excited for Nintendo's latest piece of hardware, while others are calling it a stopgap -- a current generation console masquerading as a next generation one. So is the Wii U truly a next generation console? And should you go out and buy one? Find out in our brutally honest review. (Nintendo, Wii U) -

Next nintendo generation, yes. Next level of technology or significant advancement in games and how we play them? Nah. Wii was something quite unique at the time, but now touchscreen and motion gaming has been done ad infinitum across endless platforms it won't surprise your grandmother.

The rate technology is heading as it is, you'll have mobile devices within 2 years that'll be as capable as Wii U for graphics or AI and offer similar sort of touchscreen/motion gimmickry that already exists on said mobile platforms.

Yes, mobile phones and tablets may even surpass next-gen consoles in 2-3 years, but are they gaming devices? will you ever buy an ipad over PS/Xbox?Nintendo ?! of course not.
Computersaysno  +   676d ago
It seems you are both exceptionally wrong and living in probably 2007. Abdou23 the worst of it.

Will they have physical controls? Several already have besides peripherals you can buy, but then physical controls is not a selling point for Wii U uniquely, is it??? Thats a non argument. Wii U's selling point with the touchscreen gaming or the much lauded controller screen only gaming is not new. Its combination is not new, there is no denying this- which was really my point.

As for mobiles and tablets being gaming devices? They already are. Wake up to REALITY of 2012. Tablet sales and smartphones sales are astronomical. The console industry is in a massive crunch and huge decline here because of tablets, because of mobile devices.

Do I even have to bring up the fact nintendo THEMSELVES lay the blame at the iphone's door for seriously damaging the dedicated handheld gaming market. Nintendo see Apple as their huge competitor.

Seriously, do you not even know anything about the state of modern gaming?

Ye gods....

I can barely believe that you can make such a comment as if assuming all is business as usual in the console gaming industry.

Fingers in ears... LA LA LA LA LA tablets and smart phones have had no effect on console gaming LA LA LA LA LA http://www.playzak.com/arti...

Good luck with that kid...LOL

I asked a very specific question " will you ever buy an ipad over PS/Xbox/Nintendo ( Home consoles ) ?! "

I don't care for your answer just enjoy gaming anyway you like and if you don't like the WiiU you don't have to bash it because millions others are.
Computersaysno  +   675d ago
Your first question was: "Yes, mobile phones and tablets may even surpass next-gen consoles in 2-3 years, but are they gaming devices?"

I think I capably answered that question, and you have no response for it.

The second question you asked was "will you ever buy an ipad over PS/Xbox/Nintendo"

Which I assumed to be rhetorical and I mostly ignored it. This is because you answer it yourself, and therefore pre empt my reply and therefore not really asking it at all.

You should probably think twice about how you word your questions and not already answer them if you actually want the person you ask to answer them.

The very fact that many have to even ask the question tells me no, it has not.

lol..haters and mad fanboys disagreeing with me..what else is new....wiiu has the innovation, graphics, online, the games and just everything is perfect....and nintendo will iron things out over the next couple months...graphic difference will not be much between the next generation and wiiu will win it hands down

I wouldn't say perfect ever but its very good for sure.
taquito  +   676d ago
that depends.....if you only consider a new hardware revision a next gen, then yes, wii u is a new hardware from nintendo, so next gen

if you only consider monumental gains in tech over what was already available then yes as well, but on pc, a new gen in pc gaming over consoles has happened twice, first in 2007 when crysis in dx10 maxed out in 1080p made every console game ever made 100% obsolete and ancient looking and then again in 2009 with dx11, and it is almost to the point of a third generation of pc games beyond ps3/360, dx11.1 and soon 12

so yes and yes

PC fanboy alert! You always brag about PCs in console articles. It seriously gets old.

The Wii U isn't an original idea its merely Nintendo adaptation of the DS to the living room which isn't a bad thing at all given the success of the DS.
