Is the game that engaging that you forget to eat, sleep, or use the bathroom?
I mean I understand a little bit, I used to play WoW and those late night raids that would go on for hours were excruciating. However I always knew when it was time to pull the parachute and go to bed.
The people that have this problem clearly have a mental illness. If they did not die from gaming it would have been something else sadly. The normal brain is not wired to naturally be that obsessed. Plus with the ADD most of us "have" no way most gamers could do one thing for days.. Sadly I know this stuff all to well as I have aspergers and zone out on doing stuff for hours. Good thing I get hungry lol
I love games as much as the next person and can play 6 or 7 hours a day (especially now that i'm on disability) and I have ADHD and i can't fathom how much you have to play to die in front of a screen. There is a Pause button for a reason. I know you can't pause in a multiplayer game but that's why you take a small break between rounds. It's a video game and it's not going to grow legs and walk out of your house. Take a small 5 minute break and stretch and grab a hot-pocket. :)
Ashe wtf is this? "if he did not die from gaming" How stupid does someone have to be to say this? Do you actually believe that his cause of death will be 'gaming' ? Most likely he had something like a undiagnosed heart condition. Lack of sleep and poor diet, sitting in one spot, and so forth can make this more likely to be an issue, but there's no direct link to gaming. Blood clots and whatnot also come with sitting still for lengthy periods of time, however he could have mitigated this by taking very brief breaks for activity. What I'm saying is, someone who plays games all day isn't inevitably going to die randomly, which is what your post suggests.
That is really incredible (though in a bad way of course), it's saddening every time I read one of these. Then it gets even more saddening when it's in America and you hear the news media attempting to blame the actual gaming industry :/ Anywho, that is insanely long, the longest I've ever gone without much of a break is around 13 hours. And I was only like 12 or 13 years old, I was so hooked on Ratchet & Clank Going Commando! XD But I felt like garbage afterwards, I will never do it again. Now i'm lucky if I get in more than 3 hours every weekend because of college.
having ADD wouldnt effect a gamers habits in any way. people with a deficit in attention can still concentrate on things if they enjoy that activity. the trouble people with ADD have is a lack of focus on things that hold no interest to them.
Shit bucket and hot pocket required.
I too have aspergers, and ADHD. and I understand (as most people do) that gaming can become addicting to the point of absolute obsession. It's the mentality of "just ONE more round" or "one more treasure chest" that can literally drive people insane. I live with my parents and siblings, and they give me sh*t if I am away from them to long, and my god, if they weren't here, I swear that I'd live and breath videogames. In particular, Halo 2 was my obsession for a long period of time. I remember getting mad, snapping the disc, and buying it again a day later because my love for the experience was far too pertinent to be ignored. I don't think this guy died from "videogames", but the guy could of easily died of a brain hemorrhage, where chronic sleep loss or lack of appropriate circulation within the body. Throw a dart at wall and take your pick. Personally if I look at a screen for extended period of time, my eyes tell me to hit the sack.
I've got ADHD and ADD. I've got stacks and stacks of Triple A games I don't finish just because they lose appeal. But how I have over 350 hours in BF3 multiplayer...? Go figure.
Here's what kills you when you sit too long: Deep Vein Frombosis. People who have to sit on long plane rides are educated about it, where you need to stand up and walk around every few hours else blood will pool on your calves when you're sitting. Once the blood pools enough a blood vessel bursts, and a tiny flake goes through your circulatory system to your heart or brain, killing you. Similar to a stroke, it's important to know about if you plan on sitting more than a few hours. Obviously this person didn't care a lick about their health, and had no idea what sitting so long would do to him. He was 24 and so people often leave you to your business, although with just one person coming along to tell him to get off his ass it would've saved his life.
Phbbt! He said Ass Burgers!
nah, this must be some mental problem... why play for a entire week knowing you will NEVER play video games again? damn, i myself had cases of depression when i even thought of killing myself, and two times i just didn't committed suicide cuz i wanted to play some game that would launch in some weeks (other M and Mass effect 3 to be exact).
lol you didn't kill yourself because you "wanted to play some game that would launch in some weeks." Sorry but that made me laugh, glad you didn't kill yourself. Maybe life's worth living eh?
Never got wow, thought it was crap, lol.
Regardless, you don't forget to eat, sleep, toilet.
Maybe he had something wrong with him.
Prolly it is that engaging. I bought Diablo 3 yesterday and today I played it 7 hrs straight with a lunch in between lol But I think non stop day and night is extreme
prolly? wtf is that
Damn I hope he saved in the cloud j/k R.I.P
Now seriously......Take a break, go outside and get some air, make a Taco Bell run, go exercise, and above all get some rest and go socialize with real live Humans! These stories are sad but at the same point and time it seems that some people lack COMMON SENSE and something else here is at play cause NO Normal person would sit and play Video Games even when their body is shutting down! I have had Marathon Gaming sessions but I ALWAYS Eat, Drink, take breaks and even Naps! My Health is more important than a High Score! Also Energy Drinks are bad for you and I see a lot of people drinking those while Marathon gaming! I prefer Powerade, orange Juice, and Water.....they hydrate you and make you Pee therefore you get exercise walking to the bathroom! Happy and Responsible Gaming!
He might have very well be on "Ya Ba", a popular speedy type drug in Thailand. Not many people are capable of staying up every night without some help from stimulants.
My taco bell run consist of me running to the washroom. Yeah that type of run.
I didn't always know when to go to bed myself... I still kind of don't, but I do know how to stop before I die... I mean. Wow.
It was Sword Art Online
What the hell was he playing!!! i wanna play that game too
how do you kill that, which has no life? Make it fall victim to its own addiction.
The person who disagreed with you plays WoW without ever stopping.
1 disagree. They've obviously shat their pants while playing before.
Get a life.
I wonder how he died.
Judging from the story, I would have to guess that a truck crashed through his wall. Either that or the stress of staying up that long gave him a heart attack or something.
Lmao! I actually burst out laughing when I read that first line. It rarely happens so kudos! +Funny
Knob cheese poisoning!
LOL that made me laugh, thanks!
He probably stopped eating because Thai food tastes like shit! That's the real killer here.. http://www.lonelyplanet.com...
Probably a blood clot in his legs broke off and gave him a stroke or heart attack.
Had to read that again to check that you didn't say his legs probably broke off.
I was going to say that exact word.
What a dumb ass!!
Where was his parents to sto... oh wait, he's 24. Nevermind.
I'm sorry, but he's an idiot. Unless he had a mental issue, then fair enough, otherwise, there is absolutely no excuse to such ridiculous "hobbies".
Addiction in itself is a mental issue, how do you know that the dopamine release he got through video games wasn't fulfilling some sort of psychological need for the individual? It's surprisingly possible to become entirely addicted to video games. Especially when it's used as an escape from depression and whatnot.
Cause of death? Idiocy!!
Last time I commented what I see other people commenting on a subject like this I got banned for 14 days. *Slowly clicks the back button* The "Authority" of N4G are hypocrites anyway
Their whole system's flawed, trolls with loads of bubbles due to having multiple accounts, people disagreeing to everything even if a fact has been stated. It only takes a few fanboys to report you to get you banned or lose you bubbles!!
Having just looked at your comment history I'm going to guess you mean the comment that got classed as offensive 20 days ago. If so then I shouldn't have to point out that there is a difference between making derogatory comments about a games journalist who commits suicide and a guy who was stupid enough to not go to sleep.
Lol he did Commit Suicide
He obviously had an addictive personality, but his death may not necessarily be linked to his habit.
Sudden death syndrome can happen anywhere, anytime.
It's kinda stupid to die in such a way though not as bad as the kid who died jerking off 30 times in a day in my country last year.....yes that's true. Then again it wouldn't be so bad to die doing something you love since no one really knows how we'll kick the bucket unless it's suicide. Maybe he even died painless which is the death that most people would want, unlike my aunt who burned herself to death.
they counted each fap? O.O
How do they know he jerked off that many times.
Oh man, i'm sorry about your aunt.
I just saw it in the local news a year ago. But that was one of the stupidest deaths I've heard of. From what i remember the kid managed to tell the doctors what he did before dying since he died in the hospital. My aunt went crazy when she couldn't marry her boyfriend so she decided to shut herself in her room and burn herself along with her house. That happened ten years ago so it's just another awful memory, but the smell of burned flesh is forever ingrained in my mind.
Awesome story made me laugh lol hehe
Its a shame that he died and everything, but its hard to be sympathetic considering the death was easily preventable.
Sagat smiles with his hands crossed.
Not shocked by this at all
sayonara gamer.. okay that it... lets play more game... we have to archive more games :3
I wonder if he died happy....playing his favorite videogame!
No self control is an understatement.
This case proves that we must not cross the line at any situation.
What I d+n't understand is how these people don't just fall asleep. I have a buddy on XBL who falls asleep while playing at least 2 nights a week. It's almost happened to me a couple times.
Pff, I can't even pull off a one nighter without falling asleep during the game.
I love gaming but i will never do something like this. Sad that some people can suffer from a severe mental illness thats related to one of their favorite hobbys. I hope this person was Nong because i hated playing in the arcade with him screaming at the computer. P.S I used to live in Thailand.
Maybe it was his job over there. You know, work long hours a day, grinding out a character so that his "boss" could sell the character on ebay for real money. Meanwhile this poor kid gets paid a few bucks a day to play non-stop.
Either that or clearly it was the best game ever created and I need to try it out!
I had seizures from PC gaming about 10 years ago. I played for hours and hours and smoked cigs and drank the whole time. Not good. Take a break every hour or two. The game was Age of Empires. Still love me some RTS.
.... and then an article like this is posted, and the comments make me ashamed to be part of the same community as these people.
i have self control.
It's sad when people die because lack self control
