The dos and don'ts of getting players to care about a game's characters

A "how-to" on making players feel emotionally attached to a character in a video game. (Culture, God of War, Half-Life 2, ICO & SOTC HD Collection, Infamous, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, PC, Prototype, PS3, Xbox 360)

Interesting. While with games like ZombiU where you switch characters all the time you simply dont have time to attach yourself to them, not that its a bad thing but its another approach.

The inFamous example isn't a good example for what your trying to say. Cole's wife was never meant to be cared for. She was merely a tool to be able to plunge the player into evil or good side which is current throughout the game.
