How the survival-horror genre lost its way

A recent foray into PC gaming has reignited my frustrations with survival-horror and convinced me that stagnation has crept its way into the sub-genre. (Amnesia: Dark Descent, Dead Space, Dead Space 2, Dev, Industry, PC, Resident Evil 6, Slender: The Arrival, Xbox 360)
