Far Cry 3 PC Looks Gorgeous - 16 Minutes Of Footage With Ultra Settings
DSOGaming writes: "Far Cry 3′s embargo has been lifted and as we don’t have any performance analysis to share (for now), we bring you today a 16 minutes footage from the PC version, with Ultra settings, courtesy of WhySoSirius."
(Far Cry 3, PC)
Right now, with all of the BF deals and other holiday sales, you could build a beast rig for $450-$600, depending on CPU and GPU brands. Anything made in the past 2-3 years, with plenty of RAM should do it though.
To be honest, as nice as this game looks, it still can't touch the original Crysis on Ultra....which is crazy, when you think about it.
Ya crysis 1 is unremarkable. I finally played it a few months ago on max with a hd 6850-$120 and intel g850-$90. It is crazy my $500 rig can run it at max. That is just proof that pc gaming is not that expensive.
Game looks incredible...but does anyone else think that ssao is probably the most misused graphical technique of the entire generation? It went from a technique that increased shadow detail, to a technique that just adds "shadow auras" to everything. It's like this gen's lens flare.
Agreed, I love me some ssao but hate the aura it can cause (especially noticeable on light backgrounds). Sometimes it really is overdone to the point of becoming distracting (not 100% of the time but when it is noticeable it is more than a little jarring). The main issue I saw with it here was in the cave just before the "twitching" hands but some of it might had been by design to highlight the shaky effect.
Granted I'm on my phone ATM so screen size might have something to do with it--will have to check it out moment I get home on my PC.
I was going to say...It seemed like everything had a weird drop shadow applied to it. Corners on walls, especially.
I thought this video looked pretty good, but something isn't sitting right with me. Something about the wood in particular irked me in some of the interior shots. Otherwise, as an entire "world", I am very excited.
In some ways I agree: PC Gamer's review said it runs on Ultra 'decently' with a dual core 3ghz processor and a Radeon 5800 (which is about on par with recommended settings--probably 30ish fps as 'decent' for pc shouldn't be any lower imo) which doesn't sound like its as intensive as I first thought (or anyone else)--good news for some and leaves plenty of room for modders but sort of depressing for those with high end gaming rigs as it means Ultra might not be quite as 'Ultra' as we'd had liked.
Other than DX11 features and Draw Distance, Ultra shouldn't be too far from what consoles are capable of (maybe ssao on top of textures/vegetation/shadows as those are by far the biggest 'drag' in games usually). Even high performance isn't 'that' demanding for Far Cry 3 by today's standards (going by the past several generations of cpus/graphics cards). Its about comparable to Skyrim actually (minus dx11) but more ram intensive so probably has significantly higher draw distances and vegetation (from videos it looks to be true as well).
Still, the game does look great (especially as first person is most difficult to 'pass off'--its part of why most of the 'best looking' games are usually third person--farther the distance from textures less you notice the loss of quality/imperfections). Besides, Far Cry 3 is all about the gameplay and it just looks insane all around. So many different weapons and potential ways to achieve things that I can't wait for next month.
Essentially I think Machinima said it best 'Skyrim with Guns'... and you can't hope for too much more than that in an open world FPS (although more 'modded' than vanilla graphically speaking). I can't wait to see the havoc wildlife and people cause for each other (and at my hand...). I seriously want to lure people into the clutches of predators or to try to drive a stampede of animals into a base just to see what happens ;)
It depends on where the game is and what time of day. This Ultra video was at a more 'cultivated' residential area so its sort of boring compared to other areas and wish they had done it in a more interesting area.

Stagnant industry FTL.

It looks like a bright version of crysis, but is in keeping with the original farcry that I still own:)
