Five Things We Love About the Wii U

Nintendo's latest console is an effort to bring the company away from the nostalgia trap and into the mainstream. The Wii, while a fun way to shake up the typical console release, was a gimmicky letdown and took up residence in closets everywhere a few months after release. (Culture, Tech, Wii U)

"was a gimmicky letdown and took up residence in closets everywhere a few months after release."

Not for me and many others. Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Xenoblade, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Wii Sports Resort, Kirby's various games, GoldenEye 007, Monster Hunter Tri, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, NSMB Wii, Tatsunoko, Mario Kart, and many others made it my most played console.

So speak for yourself, Phoenix New Times blogger. Perhaps you're as aware of the industry as the press who covers it-- i.e. not at all.

^^ Agree. Wii has a ton of great games, some that I am still playing. Call it a gimmick if you want I call it fun. My entire family is loving the new WiiU, we play it every day and am looking forward to more awesome games from Nintendo.

I think gimmick is an overused and oftentimes misused word by some people. Along with shovelware, rehash, AAA and many more words.

Same here. My Wii only went in the closet upon announcement of the Wii U's release date. Looking back, it left me some fond memories such as:

New Super Mario Bros Wii
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Mario Kart Wii
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid: Other M
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Sonic Colors
Xenoblade Chronicles
MadWorld
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Exactly. I definitely left so many games out. I guess if someone is just into big budget blockbusters or shooters, the Wii wouldn't be their cup of tea.

Nintendo fans will buy it, enjoy the Nintendo franchises and be happy, which is really what gaming is all about - enjoyable experiences. Personally, I don't think Nintendo systems have the best games anymore - 3rd parties make 95% of the best games IMO.

Anyways,

I don't want one, but I want you to enjoy yours.
