Nintendo No Longer Developing Wii games

Leviathyn.com | Already suspected by many, Nintendo has confirmed today that there are no original Wii games in development. This is not particularly surprising, since many have felt that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was the last high-profile game to be released for the Wii. (Nintendo, Wii)

Nintendo practically gave up on wii after Zelda hell I feel the didn't even promote Last Story at all which was ashame cause it was a fitting swan song to the wii (I know nintendo didnt develop last story)

Here hope they support the wii U for a while and realese some new ips

it was a risky move
for MS when they flat out stopped xbox development and went full steam on 360. But a risk that has paid off. Nintendo doing the same is a bold move, especially looking at their previous track record of continuing development of a previous platform at the same time as their up and coming.

Then again, they know the wii-u will play wii games and therefor there is no real reason to continue to develop the hardware or software themselves.

Wii game development can continue via 3rd parties but you know that at some point they will want to get people to buy into the wii-u even if it is just to play their existing library.

Nintendo knows their biggest competition isnt MS or Sony but themselves. Every previous unit sold is a lost sale for their newest system. Even Sony has been feeling that sting since the PS3 came out.

"Wii game development can continue via 3rd parties"

Lol ... Even Nintendo wouldnt be that optimistic.

3rd Parties never supported Nintendo when Wii was in the best of position. No ones going to support the Wii when its dead in the water.

3rd parties
did support the wii. The perception that they didnt was based on the appeal of the software that 3rd parties released. Yet support was there.

nintendo's optimism is now more towards the wii-u and it becoming the replacement to the wii. this is no different than when the PS2 came out and there was still games coming to the PS1 in spite of the bigger and better platform on the market.

3rd parties who had titles in development, finished and released them not just for those with the PS1 but also those with a PS2. That is why (to me anyway) BC is a real benefit and a must for any new platform coming out.

It literally expands the market of available titles to a new purchaser by hundreds.

The Last Story still ended being the Best selling Xseed title. I think I read an article on GameInformer.

Wow this seems like a really bad move.
WiiU has only just come out, and not even released here in the UK, and there already writing off the Wii?
Far too soon if you ask me.
Especially with the price asked for the WiiU.

Couldn't they at least wait until after the Wii U had been out a while? It's been out like three days. Geez, at least fool people into thinking you're gonna support your old stuff for a while longer.

Must admit I am surprised that it isn't. Being milked
