Han Cilliers from MWEB GameZone talks about her fascination with 'offbeat' games and the state of the current AAA market.
I have outgrown mindless shoot-em ups. Cradling a big gun in my hands no longer gives me the thrill it used to. I now long for a game that entices me with more finesse than the allure of a big arsenal, triple D breasted chicks and balls-to-the wall action. I yearn for games that are not only able to entertain me, but also challenge me emotionally
Thanks to their innovative approach to gaming, RPGs like Dark Souls, Final Fantasy VII, and Dragon Quest left a significant impact on the genre.
ES3 set things off, it's a shame they got greedy and decided to cut corners so the executives could get huge pay days.
GF365: "A friend makes the adventure all the more fun. Here are the best video game companions that will keep you company."
The Mass Effect N7 Day teaser has already been decoded, and it features Liara T'Soni talking about The Council, and The Geth can be heard too.
Better not bring back Shepherd from the dead with some half assed space magic.
@snowb420.
Yeah I saw that at the end of my play through as well. I think they will bring Shepard back….. or at least a mutant version turned villain. Lol
Great article! I suspect shooters are getting some sort of mathematical calculation similar to what is used in R&B songs of today to determine a maximum instantaneous reaction, rather than looking at it from a sustained viewpoint.
The flipside of these things is, bolt a story on it and make muppets pay for DLC. Using CoD4 as an example, that was the last game in the CoD range that could legally and effectively be modified to kake it a slightly different shooter, or a total conversion. That has been taken away from gamers now in the form of DLC which has to be purchased.
I'm looking forward to the recent Kickstarter projects coming out - Larry, Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen to name a few, not to mention the slew of other indie games out there. Maybe it might open up big-name publishers to do something properly rather than the crap being spewed continually out today.
The offbeat gaming scene needs to be strong, because they should be developing the AAA titles of the future. I love the Kickstarter stuff - they are fulfilling all my inner gaming wishes - a new Wing Commander, a Shadowrun game! Flipping fantastic - NOW CAN SOMEONE PLEASE REDO XWING vs TIE FIGHTER? please...pretty please.
What's wrong with my big gun. And hey, quit knocking on my GF, she has delicious DDD assets... Although I do long for something more cerebral at times...
