'When did big developers stop caring?'

CVG - AAA game developers, seemingly, have stopped caring. About originality, about plagiarism, about their place in history. Of course, we can't look into their minds to see if this is true, but we can read the symptoms of this development style, as every year the world's biggest games continue to play it safer and safer. When they realized they can just latch on to a fanbase and keep feeding them basically the same game every time with innovation simply being some new mode or gimmick. Any effort made to do anything dynamic is usually ignored, under appreciated and criticized mercilessly. So why bother? Would you bother if you had either a bunch of unappreciative gamers as a fanbase or ones who will massacre you if you change the formula in any way? If course you will play it safe. Why go all out when no one is going to appreciate it. Like everyone who insists that Superbot pay a ton of money to put thirty to fourth plus characters into the game. Why should they do that when all they will be listening to is how much PASBR is or isn't like SSB and get attacked from not only critics and haters but the very people you are trying to please so they can buy a few units of it and you never get your money back? Why do 100% when you could only get 30% back?

It's not the developers doing this. The developers are being forced to do this crap against their will by the big time publishers who are limiting their creative freedom. Look at it this way... a development team is whatever coach the Dallas Cowboys have going on these days and the publisher is Jerry Jones... Jones has that coach by the balls and the coach had little freedom to run that team.

The gaming industry needs more Tom Benson/ Sean Payton combos out there. Publishers suck... they ruin innovation and fun.
