Dishonored : Is This The Game Of The Year?

Jason Bourne of Ludos Mundi Contemplates The Question, "Is Dishonored worthy of Game of The Year Accolade?"

Dishonored has taken many of us by surprise this year. It really has not had a whole lot of hype which really is a crying shame because more people need to play this game. Some of the guys who worked on Dishonored worked on the amazing Bioshock 2 and it does kind of show in both Dishonored game play and the setting.

BioShock 2 is not amazing, its okay but to say its amazing is a very broad generalization. dishonored was meh, okay i guess, not really impressed with it tbh.

I agree with not being blown away. I got dishonored and didn't feel the magic everyone else did. IT was decent, but felt shallow considering how deus ex every said it was going to be. XCOM, for all its bugs, it probably my game of the year.

I'll go for Journey as GOTY. That it's just an amazing experience and it's on it's own league. It does what many games fail to in only 2-3hrs which is amazing. The true art gem of this generation. Give credit where it's due.

As much as I was looking forward to Dishonored, and as fun as it was, I think it fell at the last hurdle, so to speak.

It created a vivid world. A world beyond where you could go and what you could see. Through combinations of descriptive text and moody in-game paintings I feel I 'know' what Pandaria and the other Islands look and feel like.
That's great!

But it failed to expand more on the mysticism of the world. The Whales, the Outsider etc.

The ending felt a bit of a cop-out too.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind going through it again some time.

I was playing primarily stealth, but there was one point I was spotted and thought, 'fuck it.' Went all out, which resulted in an exhilarating chase through the building after the target. I was really suprised how fun the aggressive play was. But in that, I'm not suprised people found it a 'short' game. If played aggressively, its all over too fast. I clocked up about 20 odd hours on a playthrough.

Yes, maybe not GOTY, but it was alright. I'd probs say people should get it cheaper if they are on a tight budget.

XCOM was the only other release this year i played and that's probs more GOTY material.

I loved it, I played it aggressively all the way through. I used to stealth to kill effectively.

It would be MY GOTY contender. I like the game alot but in my opinon, this year has been slightly disappointing. There just hasn't been that single awesome and memorable experience this year.

It might just be that I'm too spoiled by 2011's superb lineup and that's why this year has felt a little disappointing. I applaud Arkane Studios and Bethesda for launching a new IP, which I felt was awesome and I'll definitely play it again. It does have faults, like every game does but I still love it.

Dishonored and Mass Effect 3 along with The Witcher 2 for the 360 are definitely the best games I've played all year. The thing is that we already got TW2 for PC last year. I love the new additions and improvements we got with the Enhanced Edition, though.

I hope next year will be mind-blowing with Bioshock Infinite, GTA V and probably the Xbox 8/PS4 coming out. One can hope.

Q4 2012 has been a great game for shooter fans like myself.

Skyrim I think was also another great entry this year.

As much as I agree with you, It's hard to see a year with a better set of game releases, other than having them released earlier in the year. Most of the beginning of 2012 was a little dry.

I simply love Skyrim (it was released late 2011, not this year, mind you!). I haven't bought any of the DLC yet, but I'm anxiously waiting for the Dragonborn as it looks awesome. Can't wait to try flying a dragon! I've played the game for hunders of hour and I still haven't got enough of it. I simply adore its world, art design and the atmosphere.

How can it be with horrid gameplay, an art style that rips off Bioshock, AI that is so stupid you can kill someone in a crowed in broad daylight and get credit for being "stealthy, horrible story, horrible graphics that do not hold up the art style in the least. I mean this has to be worst game of the year hands down. Only reason it got good reviews was because Bethesda was paying off reviewers to say it was good. Heck, I HATE Call of Duty but that is more GOTY worthy than this pile of trash.

And like I've said before, YOU CANNOT JUDGE A GAME'S GAMEPLAY UNLESS YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED IT YOURSELF. And don't you dare give me that "But the gameplay videos looked unresponsive" -shit as that's complete bullshit and you know it.

I have played it so don't even tried that. Also how after giving very valid reasons of why the game is terrible do I not have any strong points? I was only using call of duty as a comparison to how bad the game is, blops 2 maybe the same copy pasted game as last year but they at least tried to make changes to improve the game so they deserve a tiny bit a credit. Dishonored is just terrible. Finally maybe YOU couldn't get a Bioshock vibe but the art style IS based directly off of Bioshock and if you deny that your more of an idiot your accusing me to be.

Dishonored was a pretty good game, but my personal GoTY is Journey. I know that it's a downloadable game, but I enjoyed the few hours of campaign that it had more than any other game this year. I have played it about five times now. It's great.

Dishonored was a good game this year. I feel like it made a agile FPS character in contrast to either floaty or heavy characters. Corvo to me felt fast and agile much like Connor or Sly.

However the Supernatural progression felt weak and timid like there should have been a lvl 3 for evrything. The overall World lacked depth or immersion with its lore just kinda being there. The story started well but then turned into a series of foreseeable plot twists.

Really in all honesty I compare Dishonored to The Chronicles of Riddick when it released for the original Xbox.
I really am excited for a squeal but I don't think they should get Goty.

Xcom all the way....Dishonored was good but not great....Every time i played it, i wanted it to become something more....a nice world wasted due to lack of diversity....
I picked up XCom to have a taste of turn based strategy every now and then....believe me, I have been playing xcom like addict now despite having borderlands 2 still on the pc.....Your actions carry weights and i realised that after the game defeated me after 337 days in-game time
....now in my second playthrough, i am treading my steps carefully and saving after every 15 days of in-game time....
Loved it more than Starcraft2,Warhammer 20k and Civ....
