Iwata Asks Reveals New Super Mario Bros. U Took Three Years To Develop

New Super Mario Bros. U will be one of two first party Wii U launch titles when Nintendo’s new console finally becomes available to buy - the other of course being Nintendo Land - and it has been revealed in the latest edition of Iwata Asks that the game has been in the works ever since its predecessor New Super Mario Bros. Wii was released. (New Super Mario Bros Wii, Satoru Iwata, Wii U)

That seems like a real big copy and paste.

"Iwata Asks Reveals New Super Mario Bros. U Took Three Years To Develop"

BIG FAT LIE.

Why would he lie? What would he have to gain by lying?
fermcr  +   184d ago
This game probably took 6 months or less to port from other platforms, but he said 3 years so people that purchase it don't feel robbed.... and to try and justify the 60-70€ price of this game in the WiiU. So no, i don't believe him.

It's a psychological play by him. He's a businessman trying to make more sales.

And you have facts to back this up?
Donnieboi  +   184d ago
U kidding me? It's the same game from wii, but in pseudo hd, and they used the same level-editing toolkit to make "new" levels. Clearly it would be a lie that THIS game took 3 years when it is clearly just a wii port of a yet to come out game.

So much for these Mario games being 'churned out', lol.

All the great reviews it's getting it's obvious!

Haters are pressed cause some recent 5 month developed game is wack! hehe

Nintendo might make it look easy, but copycat games keep flopping. :)

I always have a knee-jerk reaction to call Nintendo liars when I hear how many "years" it took to develop this game or that game. They said Skyward Sword took 5 plus years, but considering the final product, it felt like a rushed 2 years for the game in its entirety. Granted, the development of certain concepts/elements can take that long as Nintendo does continue to find ways to bring forward innovation. The sword play in Skyward Sword was mostly great and an example of time spent dedicated to a concept.
However, all that time in development just doesn't seem to translate into the finished game... only components of it. I really hope though that I'm wrong and Mario Bros WiiU plays like a game 3 years in the making. As much as I dislike much of Nintendo's choice these past few years, I do want them to succeed and make the WiiU my system of choice like the N64 used to be.

I really doubt the Wii-U version took 3 years to develop

The funny thing is that even though we know he's BSing us, we know we'd buy that fun silly game later on. I know i would. The Super Mario Wii was crazy fun.
