4 Underrated PlayStation RPGs

Leviathyn | A while back I did a list of my favorite underrated SNES RPG’s, and it got me in a most nostalgic mood. As great as the Super Nintendo era was for my favorite genre, the PlayStation ushered in a literal Golden Age for RPGs. Smash hits like Final Fantasy VII & Tactics, Chrono Cross, Grandia and Legend of Dragoon affirmed my faith in the role-playing genre, but I’d like to highlight some of my personal favorites that went under the radar. Any of these ring a bell for anybody?

None of those are underrated. Least of all Final Fantasy IX.

I have to say Thousand Arms, Valkyrie Profile, Grandia, Threads of Fate, Ogre Battle are all underrated classics.

What they are are games not likely to be remade or made in a similar quality. Especially on consoles. Not in this day and age.

Well we did get somewhat of a spiritual successor to Ogre Battle on the PSP called Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together which is fantastic.

Both Valkyrie Profile & Threads of Fate are Squarenix property & we all know how they handle these if at all. (sigh)

Thousand Arms is one of my guilty pleasures cause it was so unique. A dating sim wrapped around a solid JRPG, the closest thing we have had to that is probably Persona 4.

So we have had some samples of what might be but the unfortunate part is we have to look a LOT closer to find them nowadays.

I use to hope that JRPGs would adapt things from Thousand Arms.

Also, talking about JRPGs on consoles, not handhelds, and not ports to handhelds which were originally on consoles.

The only game on that list that I think is underrated would be Legend of Legia.

I always thought Saga Frontier was pretty underrated.
