Call Of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified Review - GameInformer

Nine months after the Vita launched in North America, it still doesn’t have its killer app. We have enjoyable titles like Tales From Space and Gravity Rush, but nothing has made the portable a must-have for mainstream audiences. Vita versions of the Uncharted, Resistance, and Assassin’s Creed franchises proved to be lackluster, but Sony has one last big name to draw on in 2012. If Call of Duty can’t move units for mainstream gamers, what can? Unfortunately, Declassified is an absolute mess.

I'm enjoying the game and believe it's better than the scores it has received thus far. It's better than Resistance, probable not content wise. I would I have hoped a reviewer would have mentioned that since it's from the same Developer.

"casual FPS players and Call of Duty fans alike will recognize the train wreck Nihilistic Software has developed. "

I'm not one those, that might be the reason why I like the game.

Akuma-1324d ago

this game is amazing . id give it a 9/10. professional game reviewers are useles

-Mika-1324d ago

I noticed this. I think these reviewers have some sort of hatred towards the vita. Every vita game has been getting reviewed horribly even though they're a solid 8 and 9.

Godchild10201324d ago (Edited 1324d ago )

@ Mika, I don't think it's hatred towards the Vita, it more or less the exceptions they have for the Vita and some of the titles that have released thus far. So, I think the review and the score may sway because Sony has mentioned and still mentions that the Vita can get you console quality gaming on the go. When a handful of the titles are not. My opinion.

I have been looking at all the Vita games I have and played with an open mind. I can be a little bias, because I want the Vita to succeed and want more games to play on it.

@Akuma, The game is not a 9, that is overrating it. More like an 7.5; it deserves a better score than Resistance, hands down.

I think the issue is that people who don't play COD (me and Godmars) won't notice how it pales in comparison to the console counterpart. A person whose never had meat before will believe that a frozen McDonalds patti is the best thing in the world. This looks like a similar situation.

ShoryukenII1324d ago

@LOGICWINS
But I like McDonalds. :(

Does that change the fact that you liked the McDonald's patty though? Does trying something else and liking it better than patty all of sudden make it the worse thing in the world?

It doesn't matter if it pales in comparison so along as the game itself is good or enjoyable not that that's the case with Declassified in my opinion though.

I'd hate to admit it, but... KZ3 for instance is a... decent... game on it's own right... even though it is complete and utter trash compared to KZ2.

LOGICWINS1324d ago

"It doesn't matter if it pales in comparison so along as the game itself is good or enjoyable not that that's the case with Declassified though."

I agree with you. Thats why I'm still interested in buying Declassified. The differences between Declassified and its console counterpart don't bother me.

I'm seriously glad you enjoy the game, but with scores like these from legit sites, the game has to have some serious flaws/lack of content. Even though you enjoy the game, can you honestly say it deserves a $50 price tag? I'm not trying to negate your statement, just honestly asking a question.

Godchild10201324d ago (Edited 1324d ago )

For 50 dollars you can do a better, if you don't play online and don't like a challenge. If you bought the retail copy you get two games and since I never had Roads to Victory, it was worth it.

The content you get from Declassified is not worth the 50 dollar price if it didnt come with Roads to Victory IMO. But the price doesn't or at least shouldn't reflect a review or the score given.

There are 3 modes plus the MP with 3 difficulties and 3 requirements for each mission to earn 3 stars. While the campaign has 10 levels and the others have about 4-6, the challenge you get adds replay value. If you play on the easiest difficulty and do the bare minimum then no, its not worth it. Because of how quickly you will run through the Singleplayer content.

The campaign has 3 different difficulty levels that can get frustrating because of the AI, but what game doesn't have that. There is the time trial mode, that requires you to run through the course with shortest amount of time killing all enemies and with no civilian deaths. There is the Hostiles mode, that requirea you to run through a set of waves with the enemies getting smarter and using better weapons. Then there is the MP.

I actually love the multiplayer, it's a mix of Black Ops 1, MW3 and CoD:4. It's kept me busy over the past few days as I travel alot and I've hooked it up to the 4G on my Droid by tethering.

Knushwood Butt1323d ago

Uncharted on Vita was lackluster?? News to me. I had a blast with it. Played it a ton and got the platinum trophy.

Don't really understand this undeserved hate for the Vita to be honest.

So glad nihilistic is moving to mobile platforms and is gonna stay away from real gaming.

BigStef711324d ago

This game is much better than burning skies but its getting far worse reviews. That makes no sense whatsoever. Also are they seriously comparing its console counterpart?

CommonSenseGamer1324d ago

Why should they not compare? Sony has been touting the Vita as a portable console experience since it was first announced. Games like LBP support this argument.

Face it, no matter what supporters claimed many months ago Black Ops is not going to be the shot in the arm the Vita needs this Xmas.

Yodagamer1324d ago

Exactly Sony is advertising the PS vita as console (ps3) quality. People are naturally going to be disappointed when it isn't, just like the psp being compared to the ps2. I'm sure I'll get disagrees for this, but Sony needs to quit advertising it as console quality to get the comparisons to stop.

Kingthrash3601324d ago

Imma waste a bubble on you yoda and common. This game isn't console quality that's true, Sony stated that the VITA can produce console quality also true ( and proven with SFxT & MvC seeing that u can actually fight people who are on a ps3 with your vita.) but this game falls on the middle it's beyond ANY handheld FPS and isn't up to par with TODAY'S console fps ( better than far cry on all levels with the exception of sp length in my opinion). That said HOW CAN THEY GIVE THIS A 3???? Console comments aside a reviewer shouldn't give this a 3.

Hicken1324d ago

Is Sound Shapes "console quality?" What about Frobisher Says? Foosball? Puddle?

Let's leave out Assassin's Creed, BlazBlue, Disgaea, Dynasty Warriors, Gravity Rush, Hot Shots Golf, LittleBigPlanet, MLB The Show, Mortal Kombat, Need for Speed, Ragnarok Odyssey, Rayman Origins, Street Fighter x Tekken, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Uncharted, Unit 13, and Wipeout. None of those games are as good as, or better than, their console counterparts.

Are you SO ignorant that you expect EVERY game to come out for the system to be "console quality?" Hell, all games ON CONSOLES aren't even "console quality," but you want EVERY game on a handheld to be held to that standard.

The only way you'd get a Vita is if it were a 20 million unit-selling tablet, and since it will never be a tablet(sales can't be guessed at this early on), you'll never get one. Damn all the games I mentioned. Damn all the features that just keep getting better.

So, again, I ask: why do you keep commenting?

Outside_ofthe_Box1324d ago (Edited 1324d ago )

***"Sony needs to quit advertising it as console quality to get the comparisons to stop."***

Do you honestly believe that? Do you honestly believe that had Sony not advertize the system as console quality that no reviewers would even think about comparing it to consoles?

The comparisons would have happened regardless. The only difference is that people can justify the comparisons. It's not that Sony should stop advertizing it as console quality to get people to stop comparing the two, it's that Sony should stop so that people can no longer justify the comparison because it will happen regardless.

That being said the game never looked promising since the first trailer was revealed. It did improve since then(visually at least), but things such as 4x4(or was it 2x2? I forget...) mulitplayer was only foreshadowing on what was to come in the future.

Knight_Crawler1323d ago

@Hicken - "Are you SO ignorant that you expect EVERY game to come out for the system to be "console quality?"

No we do not expect all games to be console qulity but when a game cost $50 which is $10 less than than it console sibling then yes I expect AAA graphics with loads of content.

If they had sold this game at $30 then it would be justified but not $50.

Well people can't help but complain that it isn't up to par with it's console counterpart. To which I reply- No shit. Games like Resistance, LBP, AC3 Liberation, NFSMW, and CoD Declassified need to be judged on their own not juxtaposed with their big brothers. Clearly the Vita has limitations that home consoles do not and it's still in it's infancy. A lot of them received some truly terrible scores that were totally unwarranted.

Godchild10201323d ago (Edited 1323d ago )

This is my sole reason for not basing my purchases off of Professional, or "so called professional reviews". The gamers are the only people I trust, when it comes to my gaming needs.

It's not just this game, there's been others. Some on the PS3, 360, Wii, 3DS and Vita.

HellzRazor1324d ago

Funny i couldn't tell which game he was talking about, black ops 2 or Declassified. I find it suspicious that the same problems that exist on a multiplatform game are ignored yet its little brother exclusive to sony is slammed for those problems.

"On launch day, I was rarely able to connect to a match. When I actually got into one, it was filled with enough glitches to make it unplayable."

"I was frequently kicked out of lobbies to a background screen that I couldn’t exit out of"

"maps are claustrophobic and uninspired battlegrounds."

sdozzo1324d ago

I usually don't disagree, but these guys got it totally wrong. This is a good game.
