Halo 4's Sound Effects Are As Brilliant As Its Soundtrack

Sound effects are an underappreciated element of most games, really. I hold up my hands here, I’m as guilty as anyone, never taking note unless they’re exceptional or exceptionally recognisable stock sounds – my ears are attuned to Half Life’s hitting-metal clink and every-game-ever’s Wilhelm Scream, to name but a few – which Halo 4 is refreshingly devoid of. (343 Industries, Dev, Halo, Halo 4, Marty O'Donnell, Tech, Xbox 360)

Can I just make one thing clear. I do not like the battle rifle gun sound.

Warthog sounds like a beast. About time too. Was sick of it sounding like a vacuum cleaner in every game.

I'd like to compare the Halo series with Mario Bros or Zelda. There have been a lot of games kinda like it, better in or improved on in different aspects, worse in other areas.

But overall, its kinda of like the game has a soul to it and that magic cant be totally replicated. The feel of the gameplay, the music, the sounds of the weapons, and the overall flow of the game just really have the "it" factor for me.

The soundtrack is awesome and "117" and "Revival" are my favorites. I'm sure Neil Davidge is a brilliant composer and it shows in the soundtrack. That being said, I still think Marty's work suits the Halo universe better.

I'm also disappointed at the fact that there's no distinct main theme for the game. If I had to choose one to be the main theme it would be "117" in my opinion.
